Panthers tied for the most concussions in the NFL last season.

A very very smart man once told me years ago, that there's needs to be just as much padding on outside of the helmet as the inside. But since players have too large of ego, it would never happen. League should at least test this, but they then would be admitting fault which is also dumb.

Hell, make the whole helmet all out of padding. Whats the use of the hard shell anyway?

I heard that there are already really good helmets out there that drastically reduce the possibility of a concussion.

The issue involves money, and replacing every crumpled helmet.

Apparently helmets that can crumble provide more protection by far, but there's the cost issue for replacing helmets on every hit.

I don't know, I guess it's better for paint and stickers?? Plus I know F1 drivers get a full head scan and get a helment inner liner that fits perfectly. If you just think about each head is almost like a fingerprint, its unique. Lots of dents, lumps, bumps, some rounder, flat spots, more cruved on back, etc etc. The NFL has been printing money, they could afford some improvement of helmet. Besides a equipment manager looking at you, turns around and hands you a helmet.

As Luke's second concussion displayed, you don't necessarily need contact to the head to sustain a concussion. The equipment is a secondary problem followed by poor tackling mechanics. There's not going to be a method for ridding the game of concussions but they can certainly decrease incidence if they start penalizing improper tackling technique.

That's true, but we also don't know when exactly luke got 1st concussed. I watched both his concussions and plays before. I know in the Jacksonville game, he looked hurt about two plays BEFORE they called team doctors out. Luke has that warrior mentality once he crosses the line, that's a bad thing when you're dealing with head trama. I believe in both cases he was concussed before and stayed out there for more punishment. Just my observations, not concussion neurosurgeon specialist.

    • Yes, he's a tier above them, but you also touched on the money side of it.  With T-Mac locked in as our #1 on a rookie contract for a few more years, I'd much rather use that money that would be needed for DJ on our defense and develop Coker into our #2.   Especially given his contract situation as an UDFA, as his contract is up at the end of this year but we can keep him around for a 3rd team controlled year on the real cheap.  Which means we probably could get him to sign a very reasonable extension this offseason to give him a little more money while giving us a bargain contract for what he provides. DJ's contract is north of $20 million for the next 5 years, why pay that for your #2 WR with the needs we have on defense and you have guys like Coker, XL, and Horn on rookie contracts who very well could combine to be a serviceable 2-4 WRs behind a stud in T-mac? I love DJ and he'd be a great fit on this team as our #2, but the money side of it just makes absolutely zero sense, that's all it comes down to for me on this one. And no, I don't see the Bears wanting XL back in that trade, because they drafted Burden, who is essentially a better version of what XL provides, a player you want to get the ball into their hands and let them go to work.
    • I didnt see that many bad calls in the panthers cowboys game, but the chiefs especially in the playoffs were getting every single call they could get then the refs when it didnt matter would throw a call towards the other teams.  That I believe was the taylor swift effect.   But its crazy just thinking about how easy it is to change a game.  You dont need but a single ref to make a few close calls go towards one team over the other and in the nfl that is the game.
    • I don't think it's unrealistically blaming Bryce Young......to say has been a reason, sometimes a big one, in why our pass offense overall has been extremely week over the past 3 collective seasons.  I think that bothering anyone, is just being overly invested in some Bryce Young argument.  It's just a reality.
