OJ Simpson Could Be Released From Prison, Collect NFL Retirement Money

O.J. Simpson is eligible for parole on Oct. 1, and there is a chance the Pro Football Hall of Famer could be released from prison after serving nine years of a 33-year sentence.

Simpson, who was convicted in 2008 of 12 charges stemming from a sports memorabilia heist, was paroled on five of his charges in 2013. He will likely have a parole hearing at some point this summer, during which he will attempt to convince the board that he has kept out of trouble and been a model inmate.

Simpson was part of a group of men who stole roughly 800 items from sports memorabilia dealers Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong at a Las Vegas hotel room in 2007. The crime was committed roughly 10 years after he was infamously acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown, and her friend, Ron Goldman.

If he is granted parole in October, Simpson will reportedly have a large sum of cash waiting for him. According to the Sunday Express, Simpson has accrued $2.7 million in retirement benefits from his days of playing for the Buffalo Bills and San Francisco 49ers. Though the 69-year-old still owes much of the $33.5 million he was ordered to pay when he was found civilly liable of the murders of Brown and Goldman, laws state that pension money cannot be collected by creditors.

The ESPN documentary “OJ: Made in America” did not paint Simpson in a great light, as expected. We learned some disturbing new info about the early stages of his relationship with Brown, but Simpson’s reputation is never going to be repaired anyway. He’ll certainly be pleased if he gets to serve less than one third of his sentence.

I'm surprised the HOF didn't attempt to remove him somehow, can't remember them even talking about it. With all the talk about domestic abuse and the NFL cracking down on players who beat their gf/wife it would make sense if he lost his admittance.

They've removed all mention of him and it was a big deal when it happened

If you took every player the was an HOFer out of the hall because of legal issues.  The Hall would be half the size it is now.

I don't know if any of you remember the whole issue with him getting arrested.  I wish he wasn't armed.   He was going after stolen memorabilia that belonged to him.  I also thought 33 yrs was a bit steep but than again it was Nevada.   I always thought that they used this conviction to offset his acquittal in the Nicole Simpson Brown ordeal. Justice was served and now I hope they let him out and hopefully he will live the remainder of his life out of trouble.

He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but what an amazing back.  I remember watching him break 2000 yds. Just like watching the original GOAT Johnny Unitas.  Would have loved to see Unitas play in this era.  The man was a walking offensive coordinator.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
