Dalvin Cook Blows Away Bench Press, Fournette does nothing...

If you had a legitimate bone to pick by watching film I'd have no problem with it but thinking a lack of a few bench press reps negates the ability to be a great football player is just a terrible hypothesis.

Bench press for a RB is about as important as a 40 for OL and Punters

Really only ones you want to look at press is OL and interior DL. Can show power in punch on blocks and bullrushing

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Cook as a runner, one thing to keep in mind is that Gettleman constantly talks about RBs needing to be able to pass protect. Yet, some people think we're going to take a guy who can't pass protect at all at #8 overall?

I'm assuming you're talking about Fournette? B/c he whiffs on all blocks. Also, i'm still not seeing his bench press video. It's the fact that he skipped it altogether.

This is quite the hilarious thread.  Cook is indeed helping himself with his combine performance so far.  NFL games aren't won or lose because of the direct results of the "Underwear Olympics."

Plenty of Top running backs in NFL history didn't do the bench press didn't mean $h1T.

Adrian Peterson didn't bench

Zeke Elliot didn't bench

Deonta Freeman didn't bench

Lamar Miller didn't bench

Jamaal Charles didnt

Chris Johnson...

you get my point and that is just the past 6-8 years. and left off plenty.

Hahahahah

Sorry, but hahahahahahaha

Some people need to go back and watch some FSU Games, Eveeeery down not just the few big highlights. Watch the whole scheme of things, the OL etc.

Take away FSU's OL and Cook wouldnt even be mentioned in the top 20.

Fantastic straight linespeed. His change of direction hasnt even been all up to what the hype. Go watch when he has to cut change directions etc. That said 4.3 speed deosnt help much and people catch up real fast. Now when those FSU OL set up some massive holes like Dallas makes (so big Fua can romp through) he uses that straight line burners to take it for a big gain. 3-4 of those a game and his stats look fantastic. He's not going to be able to break big tackles from NFL DL or LBs.
His pass catching is one of the best out there by a running back to come out in awhile. But if you've watched the Panthers before.
When the Fug do we throw to the RBs. Rivera Shula and the gang love power smash mouth runners, think there was a stat awhile back our RBs were targeted last or bottom 3 in the NFL in the passing game. So why in the flipping Fug would we want a guy who his big thing is he can catch the ball out of the backfield better than anyone.
Ill take the 240 pound between the tackles physical freak.
Calling him over rated etc because his injuries.
AP and Gurley say hi, AP played in just as many college games and Gurley played less

The Cook vs Fournette is like arguing Gurley vs Gordan the other year. And most everyone would take Gurley for our offense

Cook is like DeAngelo Williams with hands. He will likely be a good back but I don't see him being great. Fournette has the potential to be the GOAT, so if both are available you take Fournette because his ceiling is just so much higher.

lol if only bench presses put up points

Dalvin Cook is going to be a washed up/one trick pony has-been in less than 6 years in the NFL.

Cook has all the skill sets to be a great back. Don't be a Fournette cockjock.

Holy s^&%, Samaje Perine got 30 reps?!? That's disgusting strength for a RB right there.

That's Fullback numbers.

No true, bench press shows upper body strength. Things you need to keep the ball in place in the NFL.

Prob the most legit response.

Yea he is skipping a bunch of stuff and it has red flag all over it. He may be great but he is not helping himself.

Yea 10 years ago I would agree. If Cook can pass block and not fumble he,will be better than Fournette because of his skill set. Fournette is a safer bet though.

    • After Bountygate and the information that came out on the Saints owners shielding pedophile priests in New Orleans it will forever be the Saints numero uno for me. FUG THE SAINTS! I hope this is just the beginning of a long term period of suffering for that shitty organization run by even shittier human beings. #2.Pats/Belicheat #3. Falcons (Mike Vick years then Matt Ryan/Julio running it up) Ryan pooping his pants and 28-3 def makes my bad days always better just thinking of those. #4 Pretty much any franchise fan base thats obnoxious Steelers, Eagles, Bills, Jets, Giants, Cowboys, etc.
    • Thank God DM used that #8 pick on a bona fide WR1 and not some bum pass rushing prospect like Stewart or someone else. I believe Tet is legit WR1 material and going forward will be our long term answer at that position since we desperately were in need of one once they traded away DJ Moore.  Tet could possibly end up even being better long term than someone who I respect a ton as a WR in Moore. Evans has been a pleasant surprise and great TE/FB depth piece going forward who could make the most of his opportunities.  Any good offense worth a damn in the NFL has 3 TEs that can do multiple things and being scared by Ian Thomas play for years should makes us all appreciate what Evans is quietly doing as a ROOKIE at one of the hardest positions to learn at the pro level.  Keep cooking DM. This season is not over obviously but seeing some growth out of young talent finally is a breathe of fresh fuggin air for once.
    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
