unless they structured it 5, 5, 5, 10, 30, then you can cut him after year 4, but i doubt Kalil would have signed such a contract lol

5-8-12-14-16

25 covered after year 3, take the other 30 and gtfo if he sucks, which he won't. 16 mil a year in year 5 will even be a bargain considering inflation if he ends up being all-pro.

Nah. If his guaranteed portion is covered in the first three years, the last two go away if we part ways. We're on the hook for at least 3 years. Give it time, we aren't going to cut a guy we just signed to a 5 year deal @ 11M a year after one season. Not happening.

true. Ideally i'd say 8.5 each of the first 3 years, and then worry about the rest later, although if he turns out to be a stud, that's a $15M cap hit in years 4 and 5 is brutal

Where did those numbers come form? I mean it makes sense, it's basically a base salary 3year deal with 5-8-12 in guarantees. Then if he sucks, cut. If hes a legitimate LT, you have a bargain.

It's not a 5 yr 55 million deal.

It's a 3 year 28 million deal, with two team options at 14 & 16.

That said my gawd this is Matt Kalil........ One Viking fan said it best- " he's terrible when healthy, problem is he's never healthy."

I hope ray brown is up-to-date on his voodoo, cause it's going to that and divine intervention to fix Matt "bottom five in all five years" Kalil.

Current additions that have released contract details: KK Short (13.4), Charles Johnson (4.4), Addision (4.4), Norwell (2.7), Fozzy (1.4), Colin Jones (1.2), Bersin (.8)and Silatolu (.7)

Leaves us with 25 million exactly in cap space.

It is projected to cost us 7.8 million to sign our rookies.

This means we had 17.2 million free going into free agency.

Who knows what Matt Kalil's cap hit is going to be. But subtract that, and that is what we are at.

Thanks for doing the math, that's why you're a doctor.

They have about 18m before counting rookies, which is roughly 7.5-8m. So about 11m left counting Kalil but not sheppard.

Keep in mind, they could still reach a long term deal with KK. They can cut Oher and save 2.5m. They can extend Star and Ryan Kalil and save money there as well.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
