Let's discuss Steve Wilks.

It seems they given him some pull in bringing in personnel.  It's going to be interesting to see his twist on our scheme.  Resigning Peppers is pretty intriguing in this regard, considering he's been an OLB for the past three seasons. It will be interesting to see what Wilks has planned for him.  The Munnerlyn signing also seems to be heavily influence by Wilks on the surface.

This should make us all wonder how much Wilks will influence the first round.  Given his background, it seems like we could go CB/S in the first round. Conversely, is Wilks happy with his current secondary and now wants to create more pass rush?

Anyway, Wilks's perfomance will be a huge factor in determining the outcome of the 2017 season.  Your thoughts on Wilks's approach?

I'm sure the coaches always have at least some level of input on FA signings and draft choices but I'm not sure why you think all of a sudden it's Wilks who has all this pull.

Wilks will utilize the secondary's strength  better when calling the plays.  Bradberry & Worely have gained enough experience to play more man while Munerlyn will be able to cover the underneath. This allows us to drop a safety to play the run, blitz, underneath & contain. This will also free up the LBs to roam more free.

I think DG signs off on all of it, but I think Wilks is getting his defense put together with DG's guidelines and final authorization.

coaches have always had input. in fact, I feel pretty comfortable in saying that they are assessed on their ability to evaluate the intersection of college talent and team needs during the interviewing process.

Wilks had huge input into the drafting of the corners last year, so I see no reason for his role to diminish or change now that he's coordinator. I'd bet he leans heavily on Eric Washington and Al Holcomb for other positions as well.

it's a good setup IMO. that way when the player is drafted, the coaching staff already has a good handle on their strengths and weaknesses, and can set up workout and drill regimens to get them ready to play immediately.

it's something Rivera has talked about with draft picks before. they're not coming in to sit a year and observe or whatever, they're coming in to play and help the team win.

    • He wasnt asked to do much in the Ga Tech offense. Based on his highlights he's capable of 50 yard dimes which is sure as hell refreshing given what we're used to.
    • I noticed Canales commented on King having a live arm. Weinke coached him and said he could make any throw an NFL team would ask him to make.  His mechanics and general process of throwing looks a little wonky to me though. Haven’t really zoomed in on that though to say more.     Brazzell, his hands look at least decent to me and of course his speed is there.   Love his balance.  Like a cat, always comes down on his feet. Not his butt.
    • If Veabel is the father the name, unfortunately…. well you are looking at Mike Jr.    I feel bad for the husband And the kid though. Especially the kid who had no hand in anything and is just a victim.   Most people would develop some pretty big issues around the chaos of finding out nothing you were told about your father was true and you have been calling the wrong guy Dad.  And trusting your mother, well that is over too.     She should be permanently burned as a reporter or rumor reporter. Whatever she I was.    Who can trust anything she says?   Vrabel has outed himself as a total phony. No credibility whatsoever.
