The Carolina Panthers have gotten...

On paper I don't see how you can't say it's clearly better. The rookie CBS have shown real growth. One is tracking to be a real good one. We have another save vet leader in the secondary.  That alone makes it better. It's not over yet either.

The biggest upgrades are on the Defensive side.  SS and Nickle shore up a leaky back seven allowing KC to move back to his ball hawking ways at FS.

Captain makes an immediate impact in the slot and gives a playmaker who's looking to score when he gets his hands on the ball.  This should give our young corners a chance to be a little more aggressive knowing they have help.

DE is a bit of a mystery, Addison is looking at increased PT which hopefully translates to more production.  Peps return is really dependent on if he has anything left for a (fingers crossed) long season.  CJ is on the back side and Ealy is now a Patriot.  Right end is the main weakness now as it looks to be manned by a committee approach.

The other areas of improvement are on the o-line with our new LT and getting his big brother back on the field.  Granted we had Oher to start the season and no one can predict injuries but this could be an upgrade overall.

WR is an unknown as the FO is digging through other teams depth chart to find hidden gems who just need a shot.  Shepard and Johnson could either boom or bust.  No real way to tell until the bullets fly.

Pre draft, the Panthers look as though they have made improvements in the areas we needed most that, in part, contributed to the poor season we all suffered.

Still work to be done as we need some fresh legs in the backfield, a blocking FB, a second TE(a luxury imo) more WR depth and an additional pass rusher.

These apparent needs will be addressed in the draft, UDFA signings and post draft FA.

TL;DR - we are better

We are a tiny bit, a skosh, a smidge better than the starting team form last year.

tbh, I don't think talent was the problem last year, it was a mental thing. 50, then losing Norman was a big blow to the psyche of the team.

This team is hungry. Here's to good eats in 2017.

    • I think that depends more on how high our pick is. If we have the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd pick i think we are drafting a QB rather than shopping FA market for a QB1. Curious if we’d be reluctant to start a rookie QB week 1 though.
    • Hurney 2.0 and Fitts were so bad I don't know if it was intentional or they were that abysmally clueless. Fittershits panicked repeatedly being on the back end of positional runs while Hurney couldn't evaluate anyone outside of the 1st.  I can't figure out why Plummer still has a jersey. There's no reason. Dalton brings nothing to the table. If another QB gets cut that has given a glimmer of anything better than what we have, we should look, and that goes for every position.  I cant get over how much different this team could have been with a competent GM and having accepted the Rams offer for Burns. This franchise could have gone in a totally different direction.
    • I thought tanking wasn't actually a thing and we were firmly against it though?
