With this being a deep draft and Gettleman's history of success

I went back and looked and most draft picks were guys i've never heard of since. With Gettleman you get (typically) two starters, a solid backup and then well not much.

2013
Star, Short, Klein

2014

Benjamin, Turner, Boston, Ealy (sorta)

2015

Shaq, Daryl Williams, Funch(?)

2016

Butler (injury), Bradberry, Worley

He usually does very good if the picks are in rounds 1-3 after that almost nothing. So this year is great cause we get four picks in the top three rounds.

I'd package every pick from rounds 4-7 and see how high up we could go. probably could get 5 starters. the draft is deep enough for it this year.

It also points to the logic of trading down in the first round to get a 1 and a 2 to give gettleman more chances with the higher end draft talent.

I'm about to break hearts BUT here is what you could probably expect to happen ... imo realistically.

1.) DE ( Thomas or Barnett)

2a.) Defensive Back that slides (Obi, Budda, Kevin King, Quincy Wilson)

2b.) TE (BPA)

3.) RB ( Perine )

4th and 5th packaged to move back into 3...

3b.)WR ( Dede Westbrook)

6.) Guard (BPA)

7.) LB ( the annual linebacker gem)

3 high priority Udfa's and 7 camp bodies (2-3 of which make the practice sqaud)

The Crystal ball is smoking .... ***drops mic***

A couple of pretty key misses in Ealy and Funchess though. That trade up for Funchess hurt. Still too early to call him a flat out bust, but it's certainly looking that way.

The fact there are many rookies coming in this year that are older than Funchess should be saying something. When he translates his potential on the field, we'll be talking about him as our WR1.

Ealy wasn't a huge miss. The fact he was our best player - by far - in the Superbowl made his pick all the more worth it. If Remmers wasn't such a turnstile, Ealy would be hands down Superbowl MVP, and an easy non-bust for us. Only issue is inconsistency, but the potential is there.

Very few of Gettleman's picks have been busts. That's saying a lot.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
