With this being a deep draft and Gettleman's history of success

It depends on what year we look at this. A year ago 2014 looked incredible, now it looks like a bust. Many players just don't stay useful forever. Early, Bene, and Boston filled gaps for a few years until longer term guys were brought in. Next year Shaq might be considered an incredible pick, Butler should blow up, and the two rookie corners will be studs. Williams will be a long term RT.

Who knows.

i feel like at least at the time the majority of our picks performed their roles, even if they didn't turn into franchise building blocks.

A couple of pretty key misses in Ealy and Funchess though. That trade up for Funchess hurt. Still too early to call him a flat out bust, but it's certainly looking that way.

As much as we dog Gettleman on his Funchess & Ealy picks, he also selected Short & Bradberry in the 2nd + Turner in the 3rd and has yet to whiff on a 1st rounder so I feel pretty good about our chances of walking away with some stud players :)

Idk about Butler or Shaq. Butler was hurt most of year and Shaq never gets to play much. So to me I don't see how u can say he has not whiffed on any 1st Rd picks

What gets me is the fact that this fan base is so bipolar. Before, previous regimes would literally hold on to people that weren't working for them for no reason other than to not be wrong about a pick. This regime takes the chances and if they are wrong about a guy they let him go or get something out of him. They know when to move on. That's so crucial especially with the turn over. Means they'll find the right guys for the team and aren't afraid to go after them. They aren't afraid to cut the losses and move on either.  A lot of successful clubs are ran that way.

The fact there are many rookies coming in this year that are older than Funchess should be saying something. When he translates his potential on the field, we'll be talking about him as our WR1.

Ealy wasn't a huge miss. The fact he was our best player - by far - in the Superbowl made his pick all the more worth it. If Remmers wasn't such a turnstile, Ealy would be hands down Superbowl MVP, and an easy non-bust for us. Only issue is inconsistency, but the potential is there.

Very few of Gettleman's picks have been busts. That's saying a lot.

Everyone keeps hanging all their hopes on Funchess on his age. Meanwhile, he has two years of NFL experience under his belt and showed no improvement from his rookie season to his second. If that's the case again this season, not sure he'll get a 4th here. Gettleman panicked and traded up to reach on him after WRs started coming off the board.

I really hope the light bulb will come on for him, but everyone raved about his offseason last year, he had a decent preseason, and then when the real games started... POOF! He disappeared.

He drafts people who contribute immediately whether they are good enough to our standards takes time to judge he has yet to have a horrible miss even funchess is solid for a guy who just learned football a few years back went from te to wr he's had solid season and guess what he's still a baby for NFL standards be patient people

this is from draft site has each teams last 5 years of picks. Gettleman aint the only one missing big time.

im not apologizing for him but its an inexact science at best. one way we get hurt is by giving up picks to trade up. only taking 5 guys total several times.

i would argue that since you get less shots (to get preferred picks and position) , you should hit at a higher clip.

Butler had two blocked FGs on limited snaps, got to the QB, and all whIle mostly out with an ankle. Too early to come to any conclusions of course like you said, but if Short walks that Butler pick will look Ms. Cleo-esque.

Shaq did a lot for the team last year and is about to enter his 3rd season, which is where many evaluators say you'll see the type of pro that you have.

I'm supremely confident in our 1st Rd pick. 2nd rounders i will be 50/50 on

short and star being up for contracts makes the butler pick a smart one.

we have two guards on contract this year, so i expect a high pick to be spent on the position. one reason why i expect us to pursue Robinson. if he fails at tackle, he could slide over.

    • Lot of different agendas dictating opinions.  I don’t think it was the best use of money with Hunt, specifically, but the concept of OL, I am a fan. I didn’t complain a ton because I am a believer in winning up front, on both sides of the ball. I’d rather have stout fronts than fancy WRs. I have complained some about Hunt not being worth his deal, after seeing him get pushed around in a game or two. It’s no crusade. And have complained in the context of shorting the defense.   They have leveled out the FA imbalance with the dual big signings this offseason, and it has always been the draft picks I am most protective of. Anyway The picks are the real imbalance. If you did a trade chart value of the picks we directly gave up for Bryce, and added the support picks invested for skill players, and put that on one side… then put the little 3 3rd rounders and a 2nd that the defense got over three years on the other it would be hugely out of balance. I just want the balance restored. Defense is still owed.
    • I'm one of the ones that won't let it go because it didn't solve the problem. We didn't address the center position which was a huge mistake. We were in position to easily take 2 or the top IOL. Instead of drafting JPJ over XL or Frazier over Brooks, we relied on an oft injured guard to center conversion and lo and behold, it failed as predicted. XL looks like a 1 year college wonder and an injured Brooks hasn't even surpassed Eric Shelton.  Bryce was also benched for poor performance, so the issue that many claimed was solely bad oline play wasn't. It didn't fix him bailing out of tight pockets because of being unable to see the field or him refusing to work on his atrocious footwork. Then there's the $$$. Lewis got a good guard payday. Hunt got a tackle payday. Pay tackles, draft guards, if you can.  I have no issues addressing problems through FA. It was not addressing C at all that's been the issue and still has been. Ryan Kalil was the anchor of our offensive line. We had years of solid center play and it showed. Now we're still piecemealing the center position with an expensive oline and it's still a shitshow. Why? Because the player responsible for what happens on the line presnap has little to no experience doing it. We did acquire a FA center this year finally. We'll see how much that impacts the line.  Spending on a center, whether it be through draft or FA is not bad. It's not a position that can have anyone just thrown in with no drop off in performance. A great center lifts the play of the guards on each side.  I don't like how we've built the line because we've ignored the hinge pin that everyone counts on every play. And the reality of the situation is, it didn't solve the actual problems with Bryce because those have nothing to do with the oline.
    • Haha!!! That's true. Also carry Tomahawks, ballistic missiles, fighter jets, VSTOL aircraft, etc., but none of them clog up the crappers.
