I also don't understand the converse of the McCaffrey argument, i.e. "Gosh, what we really need is a big running back to do the same ol' utterly predictable things we're doing now but just do it HARDER!"

Yeah... there's a recipe for future success.

Its a huge conundrum....on one hand I want us to be successful and have an amazing year...on the other I know anything short of disaster will result in Shula retaining his job....I really really don't think we will ever see what Cam or any elite draft pick we gets, full potential can be till he's gone...

Hence the reason I don't want McCaffrey.  It's a waste as long as Shula is here.  

People on here are like "Oh my God, he can do so much."  Yeah, with an OC that's not Mike Shula.  He sure can.  With Mike Shula?  LOLZ, might as well Draft me.

All you guys are drinking the cool aid this guy is a utility player just a couple of weeks ago was barely in the first round now they are trying to sell him as a top 10 pick that's bs you guys also act like he is the cure for the slot pr and kr a speed demon he is not. He had average division 1 speed playing in division 2 football.

Yea I'm with you I like the kid,I have nothing bad to say about him. He's a baller but I have zero interest in spending a 1st round pick on a talent to be used as Fozzy Whitaker...he will be successful but best fit somewhere else

Hes being sold higher than expected a few months ago becsuse thats very likely what is true. He was the third fastest back at the combine.

But everyone gets input into our formations and play development which is where many of the critics  think Shula lacks creativity. Remember Cam has as much to do with what we actually run as Shula does. Shula designed the offense. Cam runs it. If he starts checking down to McCaffrey or hitting him out of the slot he will figure where to put the ball pretty quickly.

      Some of you act like one can't learn from experience over time. Just because you may not know what you're doing in 2018 doesn't mean that you don't know what you're doing in 2025. Frankly, you grow from experience, and success and excellence gives first-time applicants the hand probably 99.999% of the time.

      It's an interesting topic of conversation as sports evolves. I think ultimately it would lead to a number of small market franchises folding though. Especially in the NBA where there are so many bad teams that have been bad for years and years in some cases already. But as it stands I think athlete pay draft or no draft aside has reached a point where we can and should realistically ask should they make that much compared to the average person. Now college athletes is a different conversation but even that reaches a breaking point. But we could go down the rabbit hole on this even further into overall entertainment and talk about actors making absurd sums too. In the end I think in sports the powers that be won't allow these changes to even be considered because it opens the door for so many other variables. But who knows how long sports like football will realistically be around after people like us pass on. We're only just now learning about things like CTE which the league and the sport in general will only be able to run away from for so long. As far as the NBA goes my understanding is viewership has been steadily going down for a number of reasons but one crucial aspect is key players missing so many games. The NBA has to figure that out regardless. Especially when considering fans who pay to see these athletes compete in person. But hey I guess let's just try to appreciate what we've got while it still exists in this form eh?
