If shula knew how to effectively use the short pass and screens as an extension of the run game then I'd feel comfortable with it...  but he doesn't, so I don't.

What I take from that is the Panthers see him as a 3rd down back and a slot player. Not someone they can rely on in 3rd and short situations.

Agreed.  We have Stewart for short yardage, power running. This offense needs a speed back so freakin bad.

I don't think you could've interpreted this anymore wrong.

Gettleman was very clear, CMC is a 3 down back and proved as much while "carrying the load at Stanford"

My problem is this, i don't think it matters if we get Fournette or McCaffrey, b/c we have Shula. He's not going to change anything. I guess if you have twin towers, olsen, stewart, and mccaffrey and u can't get something working for them, then youre definitely out. I still say we somehow fug this up.

Not all short yardage situations require a run up the middle.  How many times has Edelman moved the sticks with his hands instead of smashing your way up the middle?

McCaffrey is a receiver who can run the ball - not a RB who can catch.  At least that's the way I would use him.

If we draft McCaffrey at 8 then the forum will crash for the rest of the draft. Reaching for a player we can't even use properly due to offensive incompetence would force me to turn off the draft. I can't.

Shula's perceived inability to properly use a player should not influence whether we take the player or not.  If Shula isn't creative enough to use great weapons my hope is that it will seal his fate and he will be gone.

I love Sam Rogers and have watched his entire college career.  He will not be a 50% backup RB in the league.  He's a FB.  Would love to have him.  At his actual position.
