I'd feel differently if he showed improvement last year. 93 NFL WRs received 50+ pass attempts last season. Of those 93 players, Devin Funchess caught the lowest percentage of those attempts. His 40% figure would've been second to last in the 2015 season. The player who was ranked below him played for two different teams that season and has been out of the league since the end of 2015.

I'm truly not joking when I say that Funchess was one of the worst WRs in the NFL last year.

Heh I don't doubt you, and if we had a better alternative I wouldn't be mad about prematurely giving up on him but we have chubby mcbenji, a rookie, and scrub fa's. no reason to throw the baby out with the bath water if you're not already pregnant.

You may be right.  His numbers are comparable to this well-known Panther bust.

Funchess Yr. 1 31-473-5

Funchess Yr. 2 23-371-4

vs.

Bust Yr. 1 25-407-1

Bust Yr. 2 27-317-0

Pie to the first person who names this bust...

Pretty sure I already did name him.  :)

He did well enough last year for a #3 or #4 WR, but much better the year before. I want him to stay on, but it would be foolish for him to come into camp thinking he wasn't fighting for his job as a professional football player, let alone the WR2 position.

His performance will be greatly dictated by how much he wants it -- there are two new rookies that are locks for slot receiving duties (and one is a RB) and a host of hungry WRs down the list, clawing for a spot on the team. The only guy who might roll over and give up is our WR1 who came in overweight and underworked after an unproductive season.

In short, he better come to camp with his eyes on the WR1 position or he might fall right off the chart.

The fact he coudnt beat Brown and Ginn speaks volume, he is overvalued by Huddlers

The hate on KB is unnecessary  for a guy who actually produces

To be honest this past yr was not goid to be a receiver on the panthers...Funchess was hardly targeted and dropped maybe 2 even sure handed bersin had drops...I think funchess played ok for what he was shown..philly i think was just too thin..I like funchess he was open sometimes but Cam just ddidnt target him..with all that happen last yr. The only player I would like to see gone is Dickson!

does anyone remember if we had "cut Brandon LaFell" threads before he established himself as a pretty decent #2 receiver?

has the huddle always been this bad, or is it getting worse?

Lafell had 470 yards his rookie season, then followed it up with 640 year 2. Funchess is doing worse than Lafell was at this point of their career.

He had 470 yards in a historically bad offense. David Gettis also had 508 yards with Jimmy throwing him the ball.

The Huddle once wanted David Carr to be the starting QB, bashed drafting Luke Kuechly and wanted Lendale White as badly as Leonard Fournette. Not much surprises me.

As for Funchess, it's hard to imagine him losing his roster spot to the new additions, at least his season. He may become expendable if his numbers stay the same, however.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
