Yep. It's Happening: "#Panthers owner Jerry Richardson and Marty Hurney meeting today, league source said. Expected to be named interim GM."

It was a steal by Hurney. Much better than say a fourth round pick for an over the hill punter.

Chicago had a brain fart and it fell into Hurneys lap. No one would have turned that down.

Bill tweeted this morning (and I didn't know either because it was a concern of mine as well) that Rob Rogers and JR head a committee that have been dealing with contracts and will continue during the interim GM's tenure. I'm sure Marty will be in on it, but he won't have free rein.

Doesn't mean these contracts aren't coming out, just means Marty doesn't have the checkbook.

Gotcha, still not good. But I hope they learned their lessons.

Yeah, you're completely and utterly wrong. If anything you have it backwards. Gettleman is the horrible drafter.

Hurney found Josh Norman, Greg Hardy, Gary Barnidge, Brad Nortman in late rounds. All Pro Bowlers. He found other pieces too. Lots of players he drafted late stayed and played in the league for a long time. Just go look it up yourself. Geoff Schwartz, Nick Hayden are two that come to mind. Or how about the 7th round nickel cornerback Captain Munnerlyn the Panthers just resigned? Let's go for some more with Evan Mathis, Charles Johnson, Ryan Kalil.

This team was built on Marty Hurney's foundation. It's a lie to say otherwise. Dave Gettleman since joining the Panthers has made sure this organization has had the fewest draft day selections in the league. The antithesis of the Patriots way. His "eye for talent" netted us players such as Devin Funchess for three picks.

Greg (psychopath and currently out of league) Hardy? LMFAO Gary (one hit wonder) Barnidge? LMFAO Brad (inconsistent) Nortman? LMFAO

Hurney isn't managing the cap as the interim GM....FYI

I think some people don't know the meaning of interim. He is going to hold the rudder in place to keep this ship sailing while a long term replacement is figured out. Makes sense to bring him back while (hopefully) due diligence is done to make sure the right person is hired long term. People see "Hurney GM" and the fandom forces them to panic. You said it best earlier - R.E.L.A.X. but that' not going to happen right now.

I honestly have no idea why you think he's better than DG. I really don't. Hurney screwed the team up something fierce before he was booted. Gettleman was a douche but he fixed Hurney's mistakes and set the team up to be in a position for long term success based on roster talent and finances. The core of Cam and Luke were drafted by Hurney, sure, but he couldn't do anything well but draft first round picks and that is only one very small area of being a GM.

DG clearly caused a lot of friction within the locker room and you can't have that, period.

Hurney did find guys like Hardy, Norman, Capt (who DG just overspent on), Kalil, McClain (who DG signed), flipped a 3rd for Greg Olsen and two guys who found success after leaving Carolina in Barnidge and Schwartz.

Gettleman has pissed away a ton of draft picks and outside of KK and Trai and now possibly Bradberry he whiffed on every other one outside of round 1. But in round 1 DG drafted rotational guys like Shaq and Vernon whereas Hurney found legit starters/difference makers for us.

People keep mentioning long term success but we just finished coming off a losing season. I'm not even a huge fan of how the roster shaped up this offseason and that's why I'm glad DG is gone.

But im not trying to sell you on Hurney, I think he's garbage as well but I HATE Gettleman. Just so we're clear I was behind the Smitty and Deangelo releases but not Norman. So don't think my hate stems from Gettleman cutting Smith or something petty, it's the countless draft mistakes and offseason signings and how he handled a lot of his business.

Name one All-Pro or Pro Bowler Dave has drafted in later rounds. Actually just look up the Pro Bowlers Carolina has every year and cry yourself to sleep.

Exactly. We posted an article this morning about why it was a good thing. Or...the best thing in this f-ed up situation I guess is a better way to say it.

    • No, the casual fan gets sucked into THIS^^^ kind of thinking, and it's so woefully incorrect that it's almost sad. The first is what I've said numerous times, NOTHING about non guaranteed contracts save the billionaire owners a single penny, because they still have to spend their cap floor, and the only reason teams ever don't spend the full limit, is to then roll it over into the next season to be able to spend more that year. But in the end, owners pay the same amount of money no matter what. The reverse is also the same, that the players in totality make the same amount of money as well, because in your example of Clowney not getting that money this year, it will go to another player, as the cap needs to be spent. And you say how we just cut Clowney after we gave him the 2 year contract, but everyone including Clowney's agent and himself, knew when it was signed, that it was more likely to be a 1 year contract than a 2 with how it was structured.  The 2nd year was just to be able to spread out the cap hit and he was always most likely going to end up getting traded or cut. It's why agents and players don't care about the total money in a contract, it's always and only been about the guaranteed money, as the years and overall value are meaningless, always have been, always will be.
    • Agents will have their 1st round picks hold out until the pay structure of their contract is to their liking, not how much money they'll get or even how much is guaranteed, just the when/how they will get the money over the course of the contract. If they're willing to recommend those players hold our, do you really think they won't do it for 2nd rounders to guarantee them an extra 10% of their entire rookie contract?
