JR won't have this franchise much longer..

He is eighty one years old with an eight year old heart transplant. He looks frail and not in top health. This team will probably be sold as his health further declines. Let's hope that when this happens, the new owner (or owners), plan on keeping our team here. Also the top priority of any new owner will be to WIN and be profitable. I'm not sure this is the top priority here right now.

I thank JR for bringing N.C. an NFL team. We probably wouldn't have one without him. Panthers need a new path and hopefully when they are sold, they will find one. The one we have just embarked on now is not the right one.

Not saying OP implied this or said it, but it truly is amazing how the same "reasonable" posters who claimed anyone who spoke ill of Gettleman was a traitor or not a true fan, and those same posters, in multiple posts, have outright wished JR would pass away.  Some classy "fans" we have...

Don't wish any ill on the man at all. Thanks to him we have our team. It's just reality, he is old and in poor health. If we had a fifty year old owner in great health, then things would stay the same for years to come. When he steps down to enjoy the rest of his life and family, then things will change.

JR will not sell the team. His estate will sell the team after he dies. If he sold the team now h would pay capital gains taxes on the sale of the team. The estate would then face an estate tax when he dies. This would result in getting double taxed which is why owners wait until after they die to sell the team even if they are not able to carry on the ownership responsibilities.

I wish Jerry Richardson nothing but the best in the years he has remaining on this earth.

I'll always be grateful for his efforts to secure a team for the Carolinas.  His convincing and professional presentation to the NFL was widely lauded at the time when Charlotte was considered no better than a long shot in the race for a new franchise.

After years of mediocre performance on the field I really thought JR had finally seen the light with the hire of Gettleman.

Alas, the Panthers are now back to their old Mom and Pop ways.  Sadly, it looks like JR is going to have to relinquish ownership of the team before fans are able to enjoy any long term success.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
