So why wouldn't the rest of our key players with multiple years left on their previously-negotiated contracts just bitch for similar incentives? Apparently, it works in Carolina.

Because they didn't name their kid after the owner, and obviously don't have as strong ties to the Panthers organization as Greg Olsen.

Greg Olsen gets an extra $2M in incentives. Can hit them by reaching benchmarks in catches, rcvg yards, yds per catch and indiv. honors.

ha...

first reception of the season for 1 yard @ 1 yard per catch for a personal record of shortest reception of his career = incentives met.

cha ching!

Marty Hurney hired in part to clean up the Thomas Davis and Greg Olsen situations. Check and check.

I'm not sure how to take this comment.  Is this a one time thing or is it added on each year for the remainder of the contract?   To me it seems like much to do about nothing if that's all he wanted.  Hard to believe Dave would balk at that.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
