NC has already declared a state of emergency.  I dunno, thats a bit early for a storm no one knows where the hell its going

When states do not do this four days in advance and the storm devastates them everybody (rightfully) wonders what the hell they were doing.

This is a case where if you are gong to be wrong it is better to be wrong while overplanning rather than planning too late.

Some of the local triad grocery stores are reporting that they are out of bottled water.  I think they are over reacting just a bit.  I seriously doubt the water is going to be impacted by a cat 1 or 2 storm 200 miles inland.

Yeah I'd assume it's more of power outages, blocked roadways, trees on houses, and flooding especially if you're near a river/stream/etc.     They can bring tornados too etc.

Western NC near Hickory, so

Gas cans full for generators

Chain saws fueled and ready

Grill with plenty of charcoal

Batteries, oil lamps, candles

Several cases of water (and beer)

No real threat of flooding for me luckily, so loss of power/trees down are the main threat

Agreed.  I will ensure all my chargeable devices and flashlights are fully charged.  And stow anything the wind might lift outside.  And we have a good supply of candles, just in case.  Other than that, not much to do really.

Be seriously careful with the candles- we used to use them during storms but not anymore.  They are friggin dangerous especially if you've been drinking.  If you use them at least have a fire extinguisher handy and know how to use it.
