The very act of trying to keep Butker as a failsafe indicates they don't fully trust Gano.  They make themselves look unsure, may put a great potential kicker in line with another team and then we're stuck with the guy who they are basically admitting they can't fully back.

The fact that they just can't cut him is very telling about the current collection of staff..coaching to FO.  All of them.

The repercussions and ripple effects of this gutless insanity are WIDE ranging.

i'm just wondering, does hurney think he's got another kasay in gano? i mean from a "big brother" kind of way.

i don't know. i'm just trying to work out in my head why neither GM was willing to part ways with this guy. i mean, this wasn't hurney's pick originally, was it? does he just value some old guy being there to handle the kicks?

i hope we don't have much in the way of close games this year, because there's no way we want a game resting on gano's foot. if you can't rely on your kicker, you've got to find one you can depend on.

absolutely correct. it shows a glaring weakness in their ability to make decisions. they should have had this decided when the rest of the cuts were made. there's no excuse for them keeping both on. what were they waiting to see? what else did they need to see? if they get nervous in TC and preseason games, it won't get better in real game situations.

he's not the kicker we picked up a few years ago. he misses...a lot. he's who he was when he was in washington, only now he can't complain about being bad because of the poor ground conditions like he had in DC.

This would be the Hurney-est thing ever other than trading a future 1st round pick for a complete scrub. Carry two kickers on the active roster thinkibg you can get something for one of them before cutting the young guy to keep the overpaid choke artist vet then losing the young guy before you can put him on the PS.

You must have forgotten about Everette brown

This is what happens when the head coach declares there is no competition at a certain position, but then suddenly the backup starts to outperform "his guy" then he's left stunned and unsure of what to do.

Bruh, you know it's bad when SaX man writes a coherent post lambasting this decision

Firing your very successful GM right before training camp and bringing back the guy before him that personally tried to screw the franchise shows a huge weakness on anyone's ability to make decissions.

For the life of me I can't figure out why the huddle has gone full blown crazy over keeping a second kicker for the start of the season given Gano's issues and injury last year. Given your field goal kicker accounts for more points than any other position besides quarterback it is incredibly important not to screw up and simply dump Gano and put all of our faith in a rookie who had never made a field goal in the league. Any other year we would have dumped the rookie and stayed with the veteran like virtually every other team in the league.

So Rivera and Hurney give the decision extra consideration and keep a promising rookie for the start of the season to see if he can deliver. Truth is one of them is likely gone by week 6 when we can bring Corn Elder or someone else back from IR. And we don't need Gano's money as we are well under the salary cap.

So what is the damn big deal. If folks would sit down and be rational for a minute they would see this is actually smart on their part and a great idea given how important a kicker is and how many times a field goal wins or loses a game.
