"Woke up with a bad neck"

Sorry if this has been covered at length already... but I was shocked to hear that Ryan Kalil was going to miss the game because he (according to the CBS guys) "woke up with a bad neck this morning."

Seriously?!?!  Thomas Davis can play with a damn broken arm but Ryan Kalil can't play because he slept on his neck funny??????

There HAD to be more to it than that.  We sorely missed him yesterday.

Tweaked it in pre game as well

Are we talking about something serious?  Or is it just one of those things where you wake up and you can't really turn your head in one direction without a sharp pain...?  That's what it sounded like to me.  I mean, that's something you can play through, right?

Not going to blame a guy for not wanting to severely injure their neck... kinda an important part of your body. And having to crouch for 3 hours while looking up and then hit someone seems to be one of the worst things you could do, slightly ahead of running head first into a brick wall.

As someone who treats "bad necks" all day, its hard to say what was going on. I can tell you if it was just a "kink" in the neck he would've played. If he was having numbness or tingling into his neck, arms or fingers I would have held him out of playing.

It may be his shoulder is giving him problems again and the coaching staff doesn't want to alert other teams of his weaknesses. I am aware thats against the rules but do you really think that stops teams from doing it every week...

If you have never had any neck or back problems, you probably shouldn't comment too much on this one.

You just really can't imagine how terribly painful those issues can be.  I would rather almost anything on my body hurt instead of my back...it incapacitates you in ways you can't believe.

I have woken up with a bad neck before.  That is what the analysts said it was.  If it is something more serious, then he needs to take all the time he needs to get better.

So, going forward, are we not allowed to comment on threads about players blowing our their ACL's or tearing ligaments if we've never sustained those specific injuries?

    • Bryce and Dave will determine how many games this team wins next year. It’s not on the WRs. The RBs. LBs. This is about 2 things: 1. Can Bryce continue to come up big in the few key downs that decide most games?  2. Can Canales evolve his play calling to counter punch like the big boys do. Half time adjustments.  teams that score 30+ points on the regular win more games than not. That’s on Bryce and Dave. The offense is top 10 at every position group, save for TE and QB. A baller TE is gravy but not crucial when the receivers are dudes.  The defense is the defense. It’ll be better this season, hopefully by a large margin, but Dave/Bryce is really where it’s at.
    • Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with this. But I feel like teams figured out this offense after the Raiders game. Bryce was so inept the first 2 games that we couldn't really even run the offense. Dalton's first game showed what we had. But after that game, coverages got a lot tighter and windows were smaller. When Bryce came back in, his ability to extend plays made a big difference. It's really difficult to stop a QB that can beat/escape 1on1 tacklers. It puts a lot of pressure on the defense when you blitz. And he was completing throws in tight coverage with anticipation. Point being Bryce wasn't throwing to wide open receivers that were schemed open by the offense. Occasionally yes. But not often.
    • With the additions we've made to our roster combined with the state of the division and the conference as a whole there is no excuse for this team not to make a legitimate push for 8-9 wins. Anything less is honestly inexcusable. There will be no more free passes for being a doormat in this iteration of the league where even mediocre teams are competing for playoff spots.
