Just spoke with Gil Brandt

Called in to Late Hits on my way home tonight.  I love Gil.  I wanted to know his thoughts on the Panther offense.  He said these things...

Bills are a lot better than most people think.  McDermott's knowledge of our offense a big factor last week.

Need to get more out of CMC.  Benjamin has improved...Funchess has to keep improving. Of course tough to replace Greg.  At the end said need to see better play "out of my friend" (Cam)

I did not ask but he said that he believes the Panthers are a playoff team this year.  Alex Marvez agrees.

Love Brandt as well.

I'm shocked at all the negativity surrounding the Panthers.

Most importantly we're 2-0, but we've been dominate on defense and average on offense. If Cam hits two wide open throws in the SF and Bills game, and Benji holds onto that TD people would be ranking us up w/ one of the best teams in the league.

Offense is going to only get more cohesive as we go along. Losing Olsen is a blow but it could be a blessing in disguise a la Benji two years ago. This could really be Funchess' chance to step up

I agree with you. The offense will be fine as we go. I have faith in Matso to fix this line. Look what he has done with what he was given. Cam is improving and you know this is killing him more than anyone. He needs to stop relying on CMC all the time and use him more as a decoy. I think he is best as a receiver more than a running back. Unless it is on screens and short passes.

Finally, a media pundit acknowledged we played a good defensive team and Mcd knew us well.

    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
