Saints Winners/Losers thread

Game looks to be over.  But if somehow a miracle happens, can be edited

Winners

McCaffrey- saw the flashes today, played hard

OL (minus Kalil)-  take away Kalil's horrid game, they did pretty good.  Protected pretty well, opened good holes in the run game.

Funchess- got open a good amount.  Over thrown when open by Cam twice and had a handful of other nice catches in the 2nd half.

Losers

Kalil- doesn't look like much of a upgrade from Remmers.  Beat bad looked lost, don't see how he is here next season unless he pulls a 180.

Cam- hate to say it but he looks Bad.  Don't think he is ready.  Rusty is a nice way of saying things, his accuracy is nowhere close to where it needs to be.  I know it is rust but in the back of my mind is the memory of how fast #17 career completely fell off after surgery.

Ugly

Derfense- so bad they don't even deserve to be in the loser category.

Luke was just off today

Lots of bad angles and missed tackles

DBs Still look young.  Lots of people out of position.  Worley sometimes I don't know what he is doing.  Bradberry still can't figure out how to turn his head, just looks at the WR and puts his hands up.

Coaching staff- just got taken out back and Whooped by Saints staff. Same thing has happened for 5 years now.  Run the Zone with big Swiss cheese holes.  Bree's is a hall of fame QB and one of the most accurate passers ever.  He senses pressure and there are options open all over the field to just he just gets it to them.  We have big corners, and the few times we man up it give the front 7 time to get to him.  We do it a few times and it works then we just out it back on the shelf and roll out the zone leaving holes everywhere.  Cam has bailed us out in a shootout in past games but offense is at a league's worst right now and cant.

I fear next week is going to be UGLY

Brady the king of short quick passes could tear our zone defense a new one, while the offense isn't showing it's going to do anything

How can you blame the defense?  You give a QB like Brees THREE extra drives, including a short field, and they will score that much against anyone.

Outside their last series where they tried to run out the clock they only punted the ball TWICE on 9 series (and those 7 out of 9 drives, none were turnovers)

They completed 75.8% of their passes

The O didn't help but the D stunk it up today too. Missed tackles, bad angles, very little pressure, couldn't shed blocks...

The entire team poo the bed today, we were exposed.

CMC, Samuels and Funchess played pretty well. Our backup center did fairly well. Gano is doing his job (but we should have tried the FG instead of that lame punt).

I'm really struggling to find someone else to praise here. Trying hard, but nah.

I agree with the OP that Cam is looking off, but hopefully it is just rust. Part of me keeps having flashbacks to Jake Delhomme after his Tommy John surgery and how fast he went south. Our defense looked terrible.. no one could tackle today. Luke played badly, TD isn't up for coverage and those zone coverages were laughable. But really, we should expect Brees to pick apart our secondary... the run defense was lousy in the first half, though.

More than anything, no one played with much fire on our side. Even Cam's post touchdown deal lacked authenticity and he didn't even take the ball to a kid in the stands.

Maybe something was just off.

I noticed the lack of fire - lackluster 1st down signal after Cam's big run...

Maybe KB injury sobered team, took wind out of their sails early.

Didn't realize Cam didn't give away the TD ball.  Did he break some kind of record with that TD, I seem to remember reading something about him being tied with Jake in some stat, so maybe he wanted to keep it?

    • They're sneaky good.  Very good.  And they had the personnel to match perfectly against us.   Seattle played really straight forward cover-2 and cover-3 pretty much all day.  They had some nice simulated pressures in cover-3 that baited us to move more quickly than we needed to.  They just totally cooked us.  It was a full Macdonald checkmate against Canales & the offense.       The recipe: Contain the run game enough (check) and have the LB & secondary athleticism to shut us down in the air (check)      For any team that can match our OL's run blocking, just run a cover 2/cover 3 all-day.  Similar to what the Saints did.  Pepper in some simulated pressures to bait Bryce while you're at it.  Bryce doesn't play the best against zone.  Huge weakness, averages like -.09 EPA/P in his career.  How that actualizes - from my eye test as a silly fan, he just doesn't have the velocity for the shorter/intermediates from in the pocket to the outside to get guys the ball in space vs zone.  His best games (Rams, Falcons) was when they had a blitz we caught, went man, or it was a critical down with a misdirect/PA and he had the space to throw a nice ball, sometimes with anticipation.  23rd rated QB against zone.  24th completion percentage against zone.  42nd against zone ANY/A with a clean pocket.  ANY/A being one of the more consistent correlations to wins you can find out of the EPA stuff you'll see nowadays.  He doesn't even crack the top 32 for eligible QBs.
    • well, I have always said Sam Darnold is Sam Darnold.  Which he always proves to be.  NYJ Sam was at BOA Sunday.   I think Bryce criticism is a one of one.  Because he is unicorn.
    • JT's Stats for the 2025 season. REC: 29 / YARDS: 190/ TD: 1/ Yards per catch: 6.6 The data seems to indicate that JT is not a huge component of our offense. His presence (or lack of it) is not what cost us that game yesterday. Sanders is a big guy but he seems to go down as soon as contact is made. He hasn't produced any "wow moments" in during his 2 years with the team. So far he's proven to be a JAG. I'd rather see Tremble and Evan on the field as our # 1 and #2 TE's.
