The Theory of The Marty Hurney IR Dump

It's just laughable Hurney is the GM again. The Panthers turn around from where Hurney left this organization to when he walked back in the door to our senile owners open arms says it all.

Just one of the reasons I really don’t care any longer. This franchise really is a laugh.

There is another reason he may be quick to put guys on IR that might not be that badly injured.

If you don't mind paying their salary for the year with no production, It's a way to maintain the rights to more than 53 guys.

Take Corn Elder for example. If the coaches felt he wouldn't be much of a contributor this year, but feared they would lose him on the practice squad, by stashing him on the IR, they keep him but can still bring in someone else.

Whatever the reason, Marty has always been loose and free with the IT designation.

I still think we won't have Hurney or Rivera after this season.

We get a new GM who gets to select his own coach for once, or find a package deal.  NVM, that's what a normal franchise would do.

This is the best year to do it; we have to if we want to utilize Cam before he's completely dinged up.

I don't even care if it's a retread, I hope JR will eventually realize this is his best chance for a clean slate with a relatively easy transition.

In 2010 it was fox, not hurney, who told all the vets, specifically deangelo, to go on IR.

The fact of the matter is every player in the NFL, after week 8, is playing with an injury they shouldn't be.

There are plenty of reasons to fire hurney without injury complaints.

Source on that?

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
