Linebacker Jeremy Cash is also on injured reserve, but a report by Jonathan Jones of Sports Illustrated said that Cash would be released by the team and receive an injury settlement, leaving an opportunity for Byrd to come off IR later this year.

Hoped he could develop into a solid NFL player for us but this isn't surprising. We're stacked at LB and could use that roster spot elsewhere.

What does Cash being released off of IR have to do with Byrd potentially being designated to return? Was there actually a plan to use one of the two IR-Boomerang slots on Cash and if so, why?

My initial reaction is maybe he’s recovered (I don’t remember what his injury even was) and we are giving him the opportunity to go play somewhere?

Releasing someone off IR doesn’t make sense (to me) otherwise.
