Imagine my surprise...

So, I'm sitting in a restaurant yesterday evening and they have "Around the Horn" on one of the TVs. There aren't any subtitles on, but I see the topic "Panthers" and I figure, "Oh, they're going to talk about this Atlanta game being huge for us and if we have what it takes to end the roller coaster and start getting better like we historically do in November/December."

Then, after we wait through all the other BS they are talking about for my 4 year old to finish his corn dog, and an extra long commercial break, it scrolls over to our topic and I see "Panthers OK after Benjamin trade to Bills?"

UHHHH WAT?

So of course I have no cellular data service at the time, and can't whip out Google.

But really, WTF IS GOING ON HERE??!?!?!

I had thought the trade deadline had come and gone pretty much uneventfully on Tuesday, so I'm spending the evening lurking in the minivan, creeping down the street as my kids go door to door and accept peoples' candy sacrifices. I took yesterday off because said kids had some appointments, and I didn't even Huddle at any point, or plan on it, until I got back to work today... and BOOM that TV and headline catches me off guard.

After the initial shock, I can kind of see the reasoning. But only a 3rd and a 7th?

I'm sorry, but this is a further indictment of Shula, tbqh. If you can't figure out a way to get other guys on the field and open then that is on you. How hard would it have been to replace Olsen, at least temporarily, with KB and let Funch run the possession routes outside? Or vice versa?  Really, all we did was show we can't do things with talented players other than move them out of here because of our own inability to adapt.

That 3rd is going to be pretty close to the last pick in the round, so it isn't even that great of a third round pick. Anyone posted or looked into our history with 7th rounders?

But no, let's punish players and fans by trading away talent rather than address real problems.

I'm not incredibly pissed. I'm just shocked. I haven't even known for 24 hours yet.

TLDR: I just found out about the KB trade yesterday evening, and I'm venting.

Meh, like you I was initially shocked and surprised as well, especially considering what we got for the trade was terrible. But I'll try and hold judgement on the whole ordeal until after Sunday's game and seeing how well our offense responds to this. It could be a blessing in disguise, but we will just have to wait and see.

Corn dogs are disgusting.

Truth. You want a quick hot dog on the higher end, Matt's done Carolina style. Back in the old days for a cheapie, Wiener King's cheese dog hit the spot, but clogged an artery with each bite.

Replacing Olsen with KB?

WTF.

Please stop.

lol

It was kind of said halfheartedly, but you can't tell me there wasn't a legitimate way to keep KB here and use him/make room for our other players differently.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
