What in the Hell is Wrong With Our Secondary?

Hoenheim

Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely grateful and happy we won this game, but I notice the secondary played horribly today. I saw way too many blown coverages, everyone getting burned, out of position. Josh McCown made even Bradberry look like a scrub. What in the world is wrong with these dudes?

If they keep playing like this we're not getting very far in the playoffs. We do well when our pass rush gets home, but obviously its not going to happen every play or every series. Without that, our pass coverages is absoutely atrocious and good QBs will shred us easily.

The Air Raid happened.

John Morton played a beautiful game. Punched us with the right playcalls to counter our aggressive blitzing and hit us at our weaknesses.

Knew it was a mismatch from the start despite the lack of talent the Jets possess. They have an OC who can get it done.

how was CB ignored ? 3 CBs in the 2016 draft.

Only one of the CBs (Bradberry) is a legit NFL starter.  Worley seems best suited for a backup role and I don't even think Sanchez is still in the league.

We did draft Corn Elder this past year but he's been hurt since training camp. Now that I think about it, maybe it is unfair to say we've "ignored" the CB spot, but we have been plagued with a little bad luck and personnel decisions.

They had one big play where Johnson broke containment (although I don't blame him since Mccown is not noted as a runner) and the safety made a bad play on the receiver.  Mccown was veteran enough to take advantage.  They scored another on a fantastic throw and catch by Anderson.  They scored a third when we were playing to soft on d to hold a 12 point lead.  As many other teams have done against us. There was nothing special or unique about what they played.

We have ignored the safety position for too long. Coleman was only good during the 2015 season. This sorely needs to be addressed in the offseason.

At CB, we have found an adequate CB in Bradberry. However, I have no explanation for his terrible season  and why he has regressed so much since last year. Just like Funchess on the offensive side, we shouldn't settle for them to be our #1 at their respective positions. We need a true #1 WR and CB.

    • The aversion to tying up too much money in the ground game when it’s what’s winning us games is crazy to me. I get letting Rico walk if you think he’s easily replaceable but I don’t see many people arguing that, just applying an arbitrary salary cap based on what we think RBs are currently worth. I’d rather be stuck with Hubbard as an overpaid backup (not the worst one to have, mind you) than lose out on the most productive player on the offense personally.
    • Why do people keep saying things like “it’s not Young’s fault we spent so much to draft him”? Who cares if it’s his fault?  Nobody is saying send him to jail or anything.  People aren’t talking about blame for the decision to draft him, they’re talking about how bad he is as a QB and how we’d be much better with even an average QB.  Pointing out that we sunk a lot of resources into drafting him isn’t invalidated because he didn’t make that decision himself. Doesn’t matter whose fault that was, he’s still not playing like a QB who was drafted at all, much less one that cost two firsts, two seconds and a #1 WR.
