The...South Carolina Panthers?

A twenty year old stadium sitting in Charlotte...

Remember, the team is said to be under new ownership in a year or so. If someone actually does have a plan for a new, state-of-the-art stadium, and they can get financing for it, the new ownership will at the very least listen to what they have to say.

I think the median lifespan of an NFL stadium is something like 31 years. The Georgia Dome is the youngest to ever be replaced at 25 years. I am not sure I buy into the continued NFL stadium boom moving forward, especially with NFL ratings in a mild slump and revenue projections not looking so rosy moving forward. We will see.

I don’t like it. Just can’t see a NFL team anywhere else but Charlotte around here. Seems like the panthers benefit just as much as any by just being in charlotte. The banking capital of the south so to speak. Noob question... why can’t they demolish the current stadium and just rebuild on the current site?

Remember they had to play in Clemson for their first year waiting on this to be finished.

The time frame for a demolition and a rebuild wouldn't be practical.

The beauty of gameday experience is the stadium being in uptown. When I went to watch the Panthers at Patriots, it was awful getting up to Foxborough

It wouldnt have to be that hard. With 485 and 77 so close, plus a possible light rail extention, it would be easy to funnel people in and out. Plus, this would give us the opportunity to have extensive parking lots around the stadium for tailgating and game day use. It was floated as a joke the other day, but building the stadium on the state line by Carowinds would provide ample parking and an easy out with 77 right there. Which brings me to this:

I wouldn't exactly say South Carolina gets "bent over" in this scenario. There are loads of economic benefits that come from having an NFL team.

There would be pros and cons. North Carolina isn't going to want to lose the economic benefits of the team, but I'm sure South Carolina would fight hard to even have a (higher) part in them. Then again, as many have said, NC might be glad to let South Carolina bear some of the burden for building a new stadium and such.

The idea would be that newer stadiums with bigger capacity, retractable roof, etc would draw bigger revenue.

And when you've got stadiums like Jerry World and such that make other owners jealous, anything is possible.

Throw in that BOA can be flat out miserable in hot weather, and you had that debacle a few years back where heavy rain was flooding the lower levels. Someone can point to things like that as a reason to want to move on to a new place.

More to the point though, Felix Sabates is likely correct that the team is going to want a new stadium at some point. If South Carolina can make a credible offer, they'll listen.

Again, I don't know how realistic it is that a stadium like they're talking about can be built.

But yeah, it's possible.

Possible but not probable, IMO. It will be interesting to see moving forward. I would wager substantial coin we won't see a new stadium in the next 10 years.

How do you get 45 minutes one way from moving the stadium to a location that's probably only about 20 minutes drive?

Because when coming from winston greensboro or raleigh to  Charlotte you had multiple options to get to stadium without having to get on 77.

In the past I have taken 44 to 77. 52 to 85 either hit 485 or 29 depending on traffic in concord.  Still options but once you get past 485 everyone is stuck on 77.  That gridlock will be terrible.

The thing about the article is that it indicates there may already be a plan.

That plan could be coming from a development group, from some of the cities or even from the state of South Carolina themselves. Who can say?

The tone of it though makes it sound like someone may already be working on it though. So this is not necessarily hypothetical. And with the team lease nearly up, things could get real very fast.

So yeah, we'll see.

So Charlotte doesn't have enough hotel space  but moving them to rock hill would solve that problem. Insert Jennifer Lawrence ok gif here....

The requirements (don't quote me) are like within a 45 mile radius. So Charlotte hotels would still be in play. Hell....North Columbia would be close

The location we're talking about is not that far past 485.

Wasn’t there a minor league baseball team that went out to sc, had terrible attendance, moved to uptown and is now a big success? Who was that again?

Sorry, sc is not getting an nfl team. They would need to pony up big and they don’t have enough money to fix their roads.
