Why Does the League, and Seemingly the World Hate Us?

Had no idea I'll have to try that next time. Thanks.

When it comes to officiating I don't know how anyone can completely write off the Panthers being the least penalized team in the league this year but then again, I will also never understand the inferiority complex with this fanbase.

Its like many of you don't pay attention to what goes on around the rest of the league and get all their NFL knowledge from here but whatever makes you sleep better at night.

People hate Cam Newton. That is the only reason people want to see us fail

It's pretty much the right here. I'm in Las Vegas.... Its a melting pot for fans of teams from all over, and nobody... Not or single person... Like Cam. People think of the panthers and they think cams immature antics and bullshit and just hate us as a whole for it. He really is the face of our franchise

Young, talented team that visibly enjoys winning and doesn't have a hallowed legacy for people to cling. Easy target for oldheads and other conservative minded fans. The millennial team.

This is interesting. Do you think certain teams appeal to different age groups? Because the Seahawks not named Russell Wilson get about as much hate in the national media as we do and they definitely have a young fan base, while teams like the Steelers have older fans and more respected in the national media because older people run the media.

So I guess we'll get respect in 20 years or so haha

Seriously. This is ridiculously whinny and I would laugh hysterically at OP if they were the fan of another team.

We have nothing, NOTHING, on the Bills, Browns, and Lions specifically. They get screwed out of victory in unique ways at least once per year by poor officiating and crazy rules.

We aren't unique or special in the poor officiating department. Officiating kind of sucks league wide and we're the least penalized team there is.

This happens when we lose though. People get super depressed and think the world is out to get us or there is a general conspiracy against the team when we just got beat by the better team this year.

Can't make it to the redzone 5 consecutive trips and only come out with 12 points. You can't win like that.

I mostly agree with you... it's hard not to be a homer about this stuff and I think, with the SOLID exception of the stuff on Cam in 2016, we're no worse off than most teams in the league.  In general the officiating in the NFL sucks ass hard.  I watch games, the Rams-Falcons game Saturday was a good example, where there are so many flagrant penalties that aren't called it's unreal.

Officiating isn't easy, I'll give them that... those guys move FAST and you cannot see everything... my main issue with the officiating is the inconsistency and the AWFUL use of replay review.  I totally get it how you miss bang-bang calls on the field... but for them to fug up replay calls... that's just terrible, and it makes the game as a whole worse.  They should be 100% right on those calls that are reviewed.

Re: 2016... you can't make me believe that the refs weren't making an example of Cam.  There were simply too many obvious and egregious hits on him that weren't called.  I think that is where a lot of the officiating concerns in the fanbase originate from tbh.  Last year we watched Cam REPEATEDLY get hit in the head while the refs stuck their hands in their pockets...  yet I watched Drew Brees and A-a-ron Rodgers GET TACKLED and get RTP calls... it was obvious and sickening.

Definitely. You see it especially when these young teams have extroverted personalities like Sherman, Lynch, Newton, etc. Young folks love it and the older see it as arrogant clowning, and the Panthers embody it despite JR's attempts to keep things conservative. Hell our own fanbase is divided on it to a degree.  Lately I've heard a lot of others fans accuse of us of having a bandwagon just like Seattle. Cool team with young fanbase. We're hipsters.

To be a lifelong Panthers fan you have to be a millennial or younger. Our percentage of diehard 35+ fans must pale in comparison to like the Redskins or Packers. That has a big effect on the fan culture and how the media approaches us.

To the OP's point about the media demanding we be punished for mishandling a possible concussion, I agree completely.  All the camera angles show that he was not dazed, and was immediately favoring his eye.  It should be an open & shut case.  I am not sure why no one in the media is pointing this out. The intentional grounding call should be getting the coverage.

Because all football fans are the same— when they are winning it’s ok if their players do anything but when they are losing, god forbid the other team do anything else besides say they are sorry for winning— because otherwise you are tasteless and classless.

some go farther than others obviously. Some just talk, some dab,.. some send wine,...

We danced and dabbed all over everybody in 2015. Teams, players and fan bases don’t forget it.

Embrace the hate. I’d rather be hated by our rivals and the rest of the country than be pitied and laughed at like the other bottom dwellers.

Yup.

When you show out, and off like we did in 15, then don't finish it up with a Lombardi....expect hate.

Also, not enough of you follow the NFL as a whole...we are treated no different in the media than any other team that hasn't won a championship in 20 years.

Why hate Cam just because he has a skill set that not many QB's possess. Other teams can use taunts but they get all mad just because Cam throws taunts in their faces when he advances for 1st down or TD. If opposing teams retaliate they are showing poor sportsmanship and get all butt-hurt because they can't stop Cam unless they try to purposely hurt him because they are mad at what Cam can do and can't stop him. That put an all NFL bounty on Cam which even had brought refs in on the deal with the hatred of him and don't want Panthers to get a Lombardi and may never get one while things are the way they are which may never change.
