Funch and Daryl going into contract years and Shaq we have to decide on 5th year option.

Funch first... Do we sign him to an extension now or let him play out this year and have to deal with it next year? On one hand, he's shown decently for just one season so extending him now could be risky. On the other hand, next year he outperforms expectations and his price goes up. I don't have any idea what he'd command right now but I'd guess something similar to Mohamed Sanu's contract, 5 years $32.5M. If he looks like a legit #1 next year and gets 1200 plus with 10+ TDs, which is entirely possible, that number goes up well over $10-12M I'd guess.

Shaq has been inconsistent here but has also had an inconsistent role. With TD retiring after next year do we need to keep Shaq for sure, or do you envision someone else replacing TD? Probably a no-brainer to pickup 5th year option, but could we extend him early too?

Daryl... Amazing all year this year. Not so great last year and didn't play much as a rookie. RT with just one good year under his belt. Would still probably command a lot right now. I don't think we can keep both Norwell and Williams so it may be a decision between the two of them this offseason... Keep Norwell and let Daryl walk after the year hoping Moton takes his place and Kalil plays up to his contract? Or let Norwell walk and extend Daryl now, or even let Daryl prove himself for another season and if he does then pay to keep him?

Thoughts?

Let Funch play out his contract. All this talk about him being a legit WR1 even though he has not shown that still. He's a WR2, a Brandon LaFell type of player that would be a good complement to a WR1 but it ain't him. Shaq should get the 5th year option. He's not putting up anything near Keuchly, as far as stats are concerned, so he won't break the bank to resign. Daryl should be locked up now to a team friendly deal since he's only came on this season from a production standpoint.

Funchess as the Panthers WR1 is not in the same league as Sanu, and he's a WR2 in Atlanta. Sanu is a legit big-body WR who has more than proven his worth in this league. Funchess wouldn't be a WR1 on any other team in the league and I'd let him play a full season as the #1 in a contract year to see if he live up to the hype.

Shaq has shown flashes of being a very good LB and I think he gets a 5th year option as does Worley.

Sanu hasn't proven poo.  He is at most a marginal WR2 that can't even begin to carry an offense.  Funchess held his own as our main guy for half a season. Funchess has markedly more upside than Sanu.

WR2's don't carry offenses. And if he's "marginal," his numbers are better than any WR2 the Panthers have dressed in 3 years.

Nonetheless, Sanu had more receptions than Funchess, only 100 fewer yards, 3 fewer TDs this year. And he's a #2. And Sanu has out produced every WR2 on the Panther's roster over the past 3 seasons. And yes, I'd take Sanu tomorrow as a WR2 to replace anyone on the Carolina roster.

Of course, Funchess has more upside- he hasn't been in the league for 6 seasons already.

Funchess is finally progressing and is still what 23? Extend that man before his price goes through the roof next offseason. I think a 6-7 per year is reasonable.

Need to keep Williams to as he is our best tackle by far.

Shaq honestly shouldn’t  demand much attention. I’m sure the 5th year option will be more expensive than what he is worth so an extension would make sense.

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
