I watched this twice, and one thing that he says COULD suggest that we will not overhaul the WR position as some of the posters here want.  He mentions that he needs continuity and to develop relationships with his WRs.  I think this is why he relied on Benjamin to such a degree, it could have led to the trade.   In addition, he had surgery and missed camp, Samuel was hurt a lot, and he ended the season with Byrd, Bersin, and Sheperd---a new WR suffering from hand and finger arthritis or something that looked  like it.

The point?  Cam will have OTAs and the summer to get on the same page with the WRs he  has---while I think we add a vet, that may be it.  Timing and familiarity are important, and Norv will be repping what we have, but I do not see an overhaul.

I don't necessarily see an overhaul,  but remember that Hurney said we need one or two receivers. Even one decent receiver would be huge and probably tantamount  to an overhaul, but I really believe that we're going to get two.  Norv isn't dumb.  He knows that we can't go into the season with backups starting.  Plus, knowing Turner's history,  is the diminutive Byrd really going to start?  I don't think so. And,  again,  I don't think Hurney's gonna let the status quo remain.

Listen to the actual interview. It’s fantastic.

Had the sense that Voth tried catching Norv into saying Cam’s not a pocket passer, but Norv easily answers and pretty much gives the true and right answer.

Norv argues Cam’s a better pocket passer than given credit for. Sure. Cam’s mechanics aren’t consistent or typical. However, doesn’t mean he’s not a pocket passer.

Norv should be able to come in with his expertise and help refine Cam where needs to be to make him better. Keep the stuff that works, but fix the stuff that Cam should be able to fix and get better at.

Didn’t like the Norv hiring at first. But after hearing him talk and considering Chud’s history with Cam, I don’t think it’s as bad an idea as I originally thought.

We’ll see what happens on the field. But Norv talking well.

Haven't seen anyone else comment on the fact that Norv said he watched all our games this season, basically as a fan.  That will give him a totally different perspective than the sliced up coaches film.

Excited about that.  Too often it seemed Shula missed the forest for the trees.  He'd come out after a BAD BAD day on offense and talk about some of the good plays and how close we were on others. Maybe he's just an optimist or just covering his butt, but often it seemed he was watching ba different game, never could see the offensive struggles from a macro perspective.

I think Norv automatically is starting from a great place if he watched all our games each week in full as he told Voth.

I believe Cam is a pretty good pocket passer and even a lot of people here still call him a running quarterback. Most of his "runs" are called run plays, not just taking off.  He always looks to the pocket first, probably too much actually. There are plenty of times we have seen where hes in the pocket and could have taken off, but didnt.  Thats where he needs to improve I believe.  Dont just run for the designed runs but stay put ala Phillip Rivers when in the pocket.   Taking off more often when there is a hole is actually safer than a check down.

I believe Norv will do for Cam what hes missed since the beginning-- someone to move his platform around.  Cam almost always drops straight back, he never has his platform shifted or rolled out and reset-- but would benefit from it.

Those "bootlegs" and such are what some of us wanted brought by a Shanahan, so if Norv is going to put a lot of those moved platform, roll outs, bootlegs and more stretch plays for CMac, wonderful.

I agree!  But it also makes me wonder if he didn't either see the writing on the wall regarding Shula, or if Rivera didn't make some casual comments while they were socializing.  It sounded to me like he was watching us as a possible destination if he came back...something must have given him that impression.

We know Rivera tried to hire him before, but he chose to go to Cleveland with Chudzinski.

(boy did that turn out to be a great judgement call)

Obviously there could be more to it than that, but even that alone is enough to infer that if the opportunity came open again, he'd have a shot at it.

He also indicated that he and Rivera talk pretty regularly. It's not difficult to think that at some point Rivera could have said something like "Hey, if ya ever wanna be an OC again, I'll take ya."

I am pretty stoked about this hiring as well.  Turner has had success in this league and running a solid offense.  Given all the tools he currently has and the addtion of a Vet here or there and the sky is the limit.

Turner realizes that Cam is a one of a kind QB and will take advantage of those skills.  Refining and getting Cam to get the ball out quicker is a good thing to hear.

Something from another topic someone started a week or so ago keeps ringing in my ears. Turner said something about the hell with progression if a guy is open. THROW IT.  Something like that.

I have always been a fan of the Air Coryell offense.  I remember Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow and Charlie Joyner and the rest of Don Coryell's team.  That was an exciting team to watch.   The Panthers have the equipment plus Cam to run a very potent offense.

Can wait to see it on the field.

There are similarities between Theilen and Bersin.

I'll duck in the corner over here to avoid the objects being thrown at me.

Other than Theilen being quicker able to get separation  with better hands.. You're right they are the same??..smh

Just reading that we’ll implement some bootlegs got me excited. It’s gonna be a huge year for Cam.

Should be a staple in our offense instead of power running him up the gut on 2nd and 12. Been calling for bootlegs, rollouts, move the damn pocket for years...I like what norv said

Always wanted to see Cam run more bootlegs, especially early in the game to help him get in rhythm for the rest of the game. I wouldn't mind seeing some RPO's as well (out of bootlegs or the traditional read the LB). I still think we're going to see quite a bit of read option though.

Read Option should be a play but not the staple of our run game.  Teams have figured out how to play it and for the most part stop it more than it works.   Turner spreads the defense out with his offense.  The read option will be more effective especially if we line up in a similar formation that indicates pass.
