Players Association talking about Richardson scandal

NFLPA questions investigator's role

If you read the subtext of what they're saying, it sounds like they're looking to see if Richardson will get nailed to the wall the way some of the players have.

Given some of the things that happened during the lockout a few years ago, it probably wouldn't be too big a surprise to find the NFLPA is not among Jerry Richardson's biggest fans.

He’s selling the team already. No bigger way to punish him. He’s not going to jail and the profit earned from selling the team will cover any fine if they’re even allowed to fine him. A lifelong long NFL ban for a man that doesn’t have a lot of years left won’t even do much damage.

Yes to this.  I think the only thing left to figure out is if the organization as a whole took part in a coverup or something malicious. Might be someone’s line else’s head on a stick but not too much more you can do to JR.

You could ban his entire family. That would be sufficient.

JRs sexual harassment situation will have a greater impact on candidates attempting to purchase the Panthers than it will ever have on him.

The new owner will need to have a blemish free record when it comes to sexual harassment to get the NFL's approval.

Otherwise what would be the point of JR selling the team?

There is actually one place where this whole thing is most likely going to hit Richardson pretty hard.

His legacy.

Jonathan Jones and others have all pointed out that Richardson is "obsessed" (their word) with being remembered as a great man. The team was meant to be a living monument to that.

Instead, he could wind up being remembered as a dirty old racist.

General consensus is that when he agreed to sell the team, it was with the implied  understanding that the NFL wouldn't bother to investigate him because, as mentioned, what else could they do to him?

But now the league that used to revere him, the league whose cause he championed in CBA negotiations, the league whose logo he left at the center of the Panthers field out of loyalty, is likely to put a nasty smear on his memory.

It's legitimately tempting to feel bad about that, but the ultimate reality is that all this is nobody's fault but his own.

I hate to see things end this way, but turning a blind eye to it isn't an option.

I don't know that Richardson will be remembered as a "dirty old racist," but I think that it will be very fair to remember him as a hypocrite. No one is perfect, but you can't do the things that he is accused of doing and publicly hold your players to such a high standard without looking very bad. Grace and class, my ass. I would say that I'm surprised, but I'd be lying. Don't portray yourself as a nice guy when you're really an egomaniacal asshole, because when you get caught (and you will) people will have little mercy.

    • Still have yet to see this broken down anywhere by anyone past the details that he's getting 58.4m over three years with 54.3m guaranteed.    That does tell us two things though.  1. His contract was changed this year because he didn't have any guaranteed money left on his contract.  2. All of this years salary is guaranteed. Since his new deal has 40m of 44m guaranteed.
    • Woods has had 600 yards in 2 years with Stroud. He's done. Collins blew up with Stroud and had a ton more everything in Stroud’s rookie year than he did in his first two years combined. Mingo sucks but his rookie season was about the same as Collins. The Texans won 10 games with rookie Stroud. They won 11 total games in the 3 years prior. They had a poo roster before the 2023 draft. The Panthers had a better team before the 2023 draft. That was my point that Stroud (and Anderson) jumped the Texans to another level. No one thought of Nico Collins as a stud before Stroud. They were one of the worst teams in the league from 2020-2022. We won 6 more games over the same time period.
    • 1 here. I don't think we are very good. Maybe we can be entertaining though. Anyway, I would rather be pleasantly surprised with a couple of wins, rather than being angry and annoyed every Sunday because the team is just flat out terrible.
