Worley wasn't consistent for Rivera. Would have probably been cut if not traded.  Works out well for us.

For a WVU note Eagles now have 4 to mountaineers on their team.

If he turns around and looks good for the Eagles though, that doesn't exactly speak well of our coaching.

We'll see.

the going rate for what? garbage?

Bring some facts.  "I hate..he's trash." Not contributing much.  Hard to dispute someone's baseless metaphors.  Here are some pointers:

  • Nobody really cares what you hate or don't hate.  That is not how we determine player values.
  • Trash/Garbage are not measureable terms and, frankly, they do not specify any reason you do not like the player.

It suggests your only purpose is to argue without points.  Hope this helps

I like Worley, though he performed better than Bradberry last year, trade isn’t bad IF we either address cb in fa and still draft a WR in the first 3 rounds. Torrey Smith has to perform as well or this trade is ass, I think he will

He did at times.  I will add this to help you out--it helps me grasp it. Bradberry was usually on the opposition's #1 WR.  Adding a top CB drops Bradberry to the #2 WR--where I expect he will be better.

I am not sure that we will draft a WR--Funchess basically replaced KB and Smith will replace Funchess.  Samuel was hurt and learning last year--he will be a WR.  Byrd was hurt a lot--he will be #4.  I do not think an early WR draft pick is better than Smith or Samuel...

Normally, I would take a WR as you say, but we have needs at so many other positions.  I think it is more likely that Clay, Duke, Ross emerges from the PS to take the fifth spot---or Sheperd moves to #4 or 5 and Special teams---not worth the contract though.

Not sure I am right, but we will see.

The Panthers will have $19,740,035 in salary cap space once the trade of CB Daryl Worley to Philadelphia for wide receiver Torrey Smith is made official on March 14, according to ESPN's Roster Management.

I am impressed tbh. So Hurndog has made a little progress but still cautious.

Evaluating Torrey Smith's fit on our roster in a vacuum, he's a veteran deep threat that defense's will have to respect from day 1. That's exactly what we were missing for most of last year. He's immediately the second best receiver on our roster and will really challenge Samuel/Byrd to step up their games. Not much to hate, especially if we're cutting Shepard.

The problem is giving up Worley, who was a valuable part of our defense last year. PFF aside, there was a tangible drop in performance when he was out of the game. This is a strong free agent pool in the secondary, so I we should be able to sign a reliable starter opposite Bradberry, but this trade has the potential to look bad if Worley breaks out and Smith fizzles out.

That's where my biggest question lies. I thought we were trying to get younger.

And yes, he was set to get released. Guess we just helped the Eagles (Johnny Rockets should chime in).

It was expected that we might go after a veteran receiver, but 29 is a little more veteran that I might have expected.

I do like Torrey Smith though. I guess he is in a Cotchery mode, though faster.

Why not trade Worley for Darby though?

I'm honestly surprised we found anyone willing to trade anything of significance for Worley. He struggled last year to the point of losing playing time to a guy we brought in mid-season. If the headline was "Worley traded for a 7th round pick" that wouldn't have shocked or upset me, instead we got a player who helps fill a need and worse case can be cut w/ no cap hit if things don't work out for a guy who had no guarantee of making our final roster this year.

    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
