Panthers Pick up Shaqs 5th year

Shaq should have been FULL TIME in TDs spot last year.

Tbh id rather have a CB or Saftey with TDs money. We have a young talented LB that needs that role on the defemse to totally shine.

Its tough bevause TD is such a good locker room guy, it is hard to say the team would be better off without him.. and i dont neccessarily thibk that..

.but on the feild, rosterwise, and just cold hard performance and limited rescources to get the things we need in balance, i think we are better off without TD. Period.   (Again, not accounting the lockerroom presence and influence he has there, which seems to be an important aspect to our team.

Good teams cut bait at the right time, often it seems a little too early

mediocre teams seem to cut bait a season too late, and i think we cut bait a season too late with TD, and we are heading into yet another season with him on the team.

TD is starting to feel like the awkwardness with the giants when Coughlin wouldnt leave..

we love ya, we thank you for what you have done, you were great!

but damn, no one here has balls enough to ask you to leave and you linger

go away

EDIT:   i wrote this thinking of Coughlin. I wasnt speaking of TD. I realize the emotional and locker room effect he has and he is one of my favorite players. If we can keep TD as a coach that would be ideal

I’d feel better about Shaq if he made that tackle against Kamara at the goal line. He bounced right off and gave up the TD. I think he’s got the tools but I wanna see a dominant game from him this year to really start believing.

The Panthers have always been a family like organization. Until that changes don't expect them to do what's best for the team. They don't cut players if they have been with them for a while. The good consistent teams cut players to save money and use it elsewhere. We are paying old washed up players that are way past their prime. That's the sad truth guys.

To be fair, Kamara made a lot of players look bad last year lol

I was gonna say the same thing...that, and half the time, his pass coverage is horrible, needs to be more consistent IMO, love his athletic ability, and sometimes shows great flashes, but needs to sustain it.

I feel like against smaller shiftier players he gets burned, but other than that he does alright in coverage. You are right, he has shown flashes, I always go back to the NFCCG against Fitz. He guarded him well that game.

Maybe not fully fair to single out that play but man, if Shaq just wraps up Luke is right there behind him, that's not a TD, and Carolina gets the ball. Was a huge mistake.

first of all you all need to shut the fug up about TD and his salary.  He played way better (yes I said way better) than Shaq last year your short term memory mutha#$.

second..  Shaq is the legitimate replacement. However a some of you are trying to make it sound like it's obvious Shaq was better last year and that's not the case.  Probably not the case this year as well.

third.. TD brings on field intensity that fires up the defense. His lateral quickness is still top 12 in the league and his play recognition makes him faster than less experienced players. You gonna miss him when he's gone.

    • Absolutely. He just turned 27 a few days ago, so quite young. He and Moehrig would be quite the pairing.  I know we say this every year, but this FA period has A LOT of talent that will be switching uniforms. We were aggressive last year and have no doubt this time next week will have some studs on defense.
    • DJ Moore has always been a bit of an enigma. He came here young, flashed a ton of potential, but never truly grew into a real #1. He’s had a few good reasons, but yet to have a real monster season (outside of his first year with Chicago) We’re still waiting for him to blossom, but he will be 29 next season. I fear that it is too late for him at this point.
    • I have considered free agency.  LT?  Either not good enough or too expensive.  Besides, this is a good OT draft.  (I would rather have a free agent, mind you, but the Panthers' reality suggests we can't do it without neglecting other positions).  What LTs are available in free agency, and what do you expect to pay?  Any Ickey-level OT is going to cost over $20m.   How much do we already have invested in our OL?  I get your point, but I do not think you can spend over $100m per on your OL. We have 2 guards and a right T who pull in about $75m per season.  We don't have a center yet.  Teams just don't let good LTs hit free agency, and when one does on rare occasion, he is expensive.  If you want a third of the Panther cap going to 5 Offensive Linemen, free agency is the way to go.  We still need S, ILB, Edge, WR, etc. I think we'd need more than Nijman--and I would understand if we went free agent for a T--but that is putting a TON of your cap at OL--so considering our situation, I do not see that option as preferable.  You may disagree. If I was not talking LT on our line and thinking about the cap, I would agree 100%.
