20 lbs (minimum) isn’t just “a few more pounds”.

It’s a LOT more pounds.

Josh Sweat, FSU | 6’5, 251 | Athleticism: 95th percentile | Age: 21

Where He Wins: Insane athlete. Sweat can fire up the field in a hurry, instantly putting an offensive tackle in panic mode to get a deep drop set. If Sweat has space, he will win and disrupt the backfield. Held up in run defense well. Wasn’t addition 260 for a while. Sweat could be that by the start of the season.

250 lbs FSU “DE” eh? Having flashbacks of spinderella.  Wouldn’t instantly hate the pick, but I’d be optimistically cautious.

Nah, go look up film on him, or even the combine...  he's much bigger and much more stout even at 250.  Any additional weight he can put on would be awesome, but to me, his potential is through the roof.  Addison was never supposed to be what he is at the weight he plays, and yet it works.  If the guy can get to the QB and is a freak of an athlete as Sweat is, we can find a way to use him.

All that being said, Hurney isn't going to do it and I expect an offensive guy at 101.

You don’t get “space” lined up with your hand on the ground off of the OT.

You get “space” rushing from the edge as a 3-4 OLB.

An OT generally gets his hands on a 4-3 DE from the snap. That ain’t “space”, thats hand-to-hand warfare where size and strength are a must.

    • Pretty typical it appears comparing to other teams.
    • From Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/nutshellsportz.bsky.social/post/3mo3rkrcezs2e  A look at Run Threat Rate across the NFL Run Threat Rate is the percentage of plays where a team either runs the ball or uses play action. This compares each team’s rate when leading or tied versus when trailing to show how much they abandon the run when playing from behind.
    • That's the current dilemma on both parties at the moment. If Ickey comes back too soon, he won't be 100% and his play will suffer. Leading to a potential decrease in his contract. If Ickey is unable to play and sits the entire 2026 season, his contract will still take the same hit since it tells all 32 team that he is not fully recovered. On the Panthers side, I'm sure they would want to keep Ickey if he is fully recovered but he is obviously in a contract year. They don't want to re-sign him to a massive deal since it be too risky and they know if Ickey is able to return to form.  Best case scenario, the Panthers wants to offer Ickey a 1-2 year heavily incentive based prove it deal. However, Ickey would most likely decline the offer and test the market as  another team can come in and offer Ickey a better deal if they are desperate enough for O-line help.
