I would have went Oliver in the 2nd. I would have moved up in the third to get Reid. I hope this works out though

This. So much this. Could have used next years third and 85 to move up for Reid. And still took Thomas at 88 or traded back and got him like we did. Instead we watched a radio show host preform as expected.

Fair I can see the Oliver point, but he reminds me so much of Bradberry I think we were trying to do something different.

The Reid point is interesting. Part of the problem with Gettleman's strategy of always moving up in the mid rounds is it left the Panthers with a dirth of talent and bodies behind the starters. I think Marty was consciously trying to avoid losing too many picks.

I agree I would rather have Reid than Gaulden in a vacuum. The draft capital doesn't really match up though. Reid's draft selection value was 250 while our pick 85 was 150. So unless you overpaid with giving up number 88 too there was no way we could have done it without sacrificing future picks.

Next years 3rd would have been a small price to pay for Reid. Especially when we get a 3rd for Norwell anyway. And keeping late picks to draft potential special teasers doesn’t help anything at all.

Yeah, but CB was arguably the most stacked, and arguably our biggest need (especially after taking Moore in the first). I understand your point, but you can't reach for inferior players at other positions at the expense of others. That would be detrimental to your overall success. The quality of corners was top to bottom probably the best position in the class.

Ppl want guards forget how we got Norwell..

I agree if Hurney did anything in this draft he did attack needs on this team..

Also ppl might want to watch this Gauldin situation closely.. This kid doesn't sound like he coming in to backup and the media is talking the same way ..

He better be ready. He needs to be starting FS day one. Sink or swim. Rather watch him struggle and learn over Searcy just struggling.. Which is why an experienced, intelligent and athletic player would have been preferred. Wonder who that describes?

I wanted to use Norwell’s pick (or our 3rd) this year knowing we’d still have all of our normal picks next year.

I would have been fine trading 85 and 88 for him. Probably could have gotten a later pick back too. Using next years would have given us Harrison or Thomas this year. Could have had 4 day one starters or 3 and Thomas.

I think  Ian Thomas will surprise us.  He is more of a blocker than Manhurts filling the role of Dickson .  I am also pleased with CB pick .  it will light a fire in training camp for those whose job is on the line.  i hope we bring in Ricky Proel's son for a look at wr . i know its crowded, but you never know.  ( sorry about the spelling)

Always drafting two guys from the same school just shows lazyness and a lack of exhaustive research. It’s probably why he is typically bad past the 1st round. He doesn’t do enough homework on available prospect.

Man it's bad when the media is giving us A's left and right for our draft class but everyone in here including Igo says it was terrible. I have to disagree I thought he did very well with these picks. Got Cam another weapon finally and upgraded defense. That's what everyone wanted and still complain. Like I said this site has turned into a bunch of whinny ass women.

Ian Thomas should have a chance to play. In today’s NFL especially on the offensive side of the ball, there is no such thing as a “project” player anymore. NFL has become so much like college. Rivera needs to catch up with the likes of Sean McVay and Doug Pederson. Ian Thomas should at least get as many opportunities like a Gerald Everett for the Rams last season.

Doesn’t that say something bad about him and scouting? Almost like he slept during all but one pro-day. I found it really weird that we seemed to pass over guys we had in for visits (like Sweat or Reid) and hoped they fell later and then reached/traded up (Gauden/Haynes) when they didn’t. I think Hurney outsmarted himself again thinking that he’d get grilled for trading up and then missed out on guys we liked due to not knowing how far they’d fall.

Don’t even think he went to the Maryland pro day per his post 1st round press conference

    • Lol, good one. Rod will never let Necas Play center
    • All I can say is... I have some happiness off the rags choking and losing to the Panthers. Hopefully the Western conference team wins the Stanley cup, but now I can be 100% uninvested in the playoffs
