Samuel full return for training camp?

Recommended Posts

Here is a quote from Bill Voth:

“Samuel still isn’t doing everything during Phase 2 of OTAs, but he’s cutting now and looking really good. They were hoping for a full return by training camp, but maybe there will be some temptation to move that up a bit. We’ll see. “

If he is a full go for Camp that’s awesome.  This WR core could be deadly if he can come into form.  I still have high hopes for him.

Really glad to see he's making plenty of progress. He needs to see as much time on the field as he possibly can. From his small sample size, he certainly knows how to get open, run his routes well, catch under contact, and speed down deep.

Only issue is his ability to catch with his hands. He does body catch a lot, and he's dropped some when trying to catch out of his frame. Nevertheless, he's an important piece for us now and going forward.

I do think his rookie year in terms of injuries was a flukey one. Looking at his OSU career, he was clean as a whistle on his injury report. Hopefully he won't see the same issues going this year.

You read some of his comments(eating better, adding things like daily massage) sounds like he realized how big the injury was and how hard hed have to work to get back.  Dude is so young and still has a great shot at making a name for himself.  If he still has that 4.3 speed look out.

Looking at him too, seems he also built himself up even more this off-season. Seems to be trying to make himself not that fragile anymore and keep his body right to make an impact.

I also personally believe he's the best technical route-runner on the team. What I mean by that is not his knowledge of the route tree, but more on the side of how he runs the routes he knows. If you watch Samuel, he's efficient in how many steps he takes and quickly changes direction in crisp fashion. It's honestly remarkable and a big reason I like him.

Funchess, Samuel, and Moore could honestly be a fearsome trio in the future.

I guess that's part of my hoping that Samuel will be heathly and grow this year. It's been a long damn time since we have had this much potential in our WR core. Last time was when Smitty and Muhammad we're here.  That's a long damn time.  Throw in a develpoping Ian Thomas and we may have a really good core for the future.  If we can keep funchess for the right price.

I'm not going to worry about his rookie year injuries too much either. A hammy, though time stealing, was probably just a conditioning/transition thing. And when his ankle got rolled up, that was just one of those things. I don't see a pattern as of yet, so I'll cross my fingers and hope it's smooth sailing this season so that we can see what we really have.
