A practice facility in South Carolina?

If it's in the Fort Mill area or a similar area within 30 minutes, I think it's a fine idea. Most of the players live in Charlotte or in a nearby suburb. Moving practice more than 30 minutes away would be ridiculous I would think. Most teams have practice facilities in or near the same city as the stadium, right?

"Dallas" Cowboys, "New York" Jets/Giants, "San Francisco" 49ers, "Los Angeles" Rams, etc.

Putting my tinfoil hat on, if Tepper does establish a facility somewhere like Fort Mill, then when the time comes (and it will come) that he's pushing for a new stadium, it might stay in Charlotte but could be moved closer to the existing facility.

If he builds a practice facility in SC, I wouldn’t be surprised if that is where he wants a stadium.

Players currently would have to drive from Charlotte to SC for practice, what 3-4 times a week? Depending on traffic and time of day, that could add an hour commute just for the players (you can tell me it’s less than 30 minutes way, but with 77 the state it is now, it would be much longer than that for the next 5 years)

If Charlotte really wants them to keep the stadium here, they better do whatever they can do to make sure they get the practice facility within their city limits. 

Can you imagine how dumb the city would look if the stadium left? “Hey we just built this brand new light rail for gamedays! We are banking on that revenue!....oh, no one wants to come downtown in Sunday’s with no football?”

With Tepper being a business man first, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is his play for this stuff to “leak” or be talking about to get the city council to poo their pants and realize they need to help him with a stadium.

I don't believe he wants to move the stadium out of Charlotte. He does want a team presence in both states.

Maybe not at its current location, though.

Moving the stadium near South Carolina won’t bring in a substantial number of fans. This would be a terrible decision.

It would still bring in the fans as people will still go to games. The big thing it will bring in more revenue for the team. Parking alone would be a reason. But the trend is to tie in other entertainment complexes with stadium to get revenue year round. Can't do that at the current location unless Tepper wants to buy buildings up around the current stadium.

Maybe, but it would be a bigger hassle to get there. SC has half the population of NC. Moving the stadium further away from the population center just doesn’t seem smart.

No indication he'd move the stadium to South Carolina, though, just out of it's current location.

Squirrel is right. The current location, though convenient, doesn't allow for the kinds of things that they would want to do to increase revenue.

Albert Breer had confirmed that one of Tepper's complaints in the sale process (and one of the reasons why he put in a low bid) was that the stadium was a lousy revenue generator.

I agree I'm against it too. Used to drive to 8 games a year from Winston Salem.  I would dread it if I still lived there and had to drive to the border. 

 

But with that said there are only 8 games a year played at the stadium (Not counting preseason and playoffs).  So 357 days a year the stadium isn't drawing income. Except some college games and a soccer game here or there.  

 

Tepper will want to maximize his roi. A entertainment complex is the best way to do that.  Not saying it will happen but he will use it for leverage to either get a deal for land around BOA or for a new stadium in close proximity to BOA. Once the new stadium is  built convert BOA site into a entertainment complex.

Most players likely live closer to SC than downtown Charlotte. At least the ones who have a home and not just a convenience residence.

Teams make new stadiums. Teams make new facilities. This isn't the end of the world and players will adjust to where they drive to make their millions just like normal human beings adjust to new jobs.  I certainly have my preference of keeping the stadium as is but I rarely go to game anymore so it's not worth my effort to get worked up over.

It is a lousy generator because it is not rented out in off season, or when we are not playing home games. Raymond James stadium has tons of events at its stadium. Monster Trucks, Tournaments, Soccer, Concerts, etc etc. We need to make BOA multi purpose.
