Still, number 8 for a Julian Edelman type player is pretty steep given the massive other needs on the lines of this team and depth concerns at linebacker and  starting secondary ..for a running back who is poor in the hips and thighs 

 

I don't see him as a Julian Edelman type whatsoever.  He offers far more than Edelman in pretty much every way.  I also don't get where you're getting that he's poor in the hips and thighs.  His frame actually ideally fits his style.  His hips are really loose and helps him with his quickness and change of direction, and he has plenty of lower body strength to break arm tackles.

The potency of our offense hinges on the o-line. With (possibly) Amini and Kalil on the left side I would be slightly worried.

Anderson had 245 carries. That's 50 more than Stewart. The mix will be more equally distributed.

Based on comments by Rivera and Turner, I think the plan will be to play CMC in the Tomlinson (duel back) role as lead back, and Anderson in the Sproles (change of pace) role...albeit more power-based than scatback-based like Sproles played.

If I am honest, McCaffrey did not look like an every down RB last season. He has a diverse skillset, but running up the middle did not appear to be in that skillset. For that matter, his YPC was not impressive. It was pedestrian. I believe Stewart's was even worse. I will be very interested to see how the change in systems affects McCaffrey.

He had over 4 yards per carry in the 2nd half of the season when the run blocking got more consistent.

People are forgetting that one play vs the pats when he caught the ball near the sideline and stiff armed a NE defender straight into the ground.  

Hes shown some power in a few instances,  hoping we get more of it this season after him putting on more muscle weight

Honestly, i didn’t want him drafted in rd 1  at number 8 and do not see him as a star nfl RB

do I hope he surprises doubters like me sure, but to me we have two of the same player, Samuels and CMC   Just like two the same in Funchess and Benjamin

Not sure what you mean by this exactly other than the “break tackles” part. That I can agree with you to a degree.  It’s a huge transition from college as we all know. Most people emphasize the difference in NFL speed but the overall techniques and tackling are something that rookies haven’t seen before.

I kind of hear you about the speed of the game part, but honestly there are many backs who come into the pros hitting the ground running. Moreover, C-Mac probably had less of a learning curve and/or more innate knowledge than most due to his pedigree and aptitude. 

As for the draft, when Fournette was gone, I really really thought we were going to pick Lattimore (would have been my pick) once he basically fell into our laps. Mind you, I'm not downplaying the skills of C-Mac, but I always looked at him as a change-of-pace back, so I wouldn't have picked him that high. I thought that there were better values on day two. Indeed, I thought that he would last until the second if he would have gotten past the Pats

I'm still not sold that he is a traditional every-down back due to his naturally smaller frame than some others', and I'll be surprised if he is used in that role other than due to an injury to Anderson. But I'll ultimately trust the coaches.
