It's finally hitting me that Garrett Gilbert being the backup QB wasn't just talk, it's probably happening

If he has to play in place of Cam it will not end well.  He's just a camp arm being used as a backup because they have no other options.

If Norv felt we needed a new backup, Hurney would be making things happen.  Nobody expected Garapolo to step up when Brady was suspended, or even Brady to become HOF.   Gilbert has shown potential...under Norv I expect improvement.  Norv will know if he can cut it.

I'm not saying Kyle Allen will win the gig but if Rivera gives him a chance he may surprise some people.

We're talking about the top rated QB in the 2014 class, rated higher than Watson, Mahomes, Kizer, and Rudolph; all first round picks.

He's really only had one game in his career where he just got tore up and that was against Bama.

Every where he's gone he's been on a short leash, he may be playing well but if the team wasn't he got benched

It'll be interested to see how he does in TC and during preseason.

I'm hoping he sticks to the PS. Prototypical size and live arm. When he's on he's deadly.

Betting staff and Co see him only a camp arm, so he goes to Canada for a few years.

. Hopefully he can become an asset for us but those guys proved themselves to be more than top recruits.

Google is your friend instead of a rapid 2 second smartass response.

A guy that we lost in the trade up to get useless Daeshon Hall.  A guy that Steve Smith said on air was the most impressive QB at the 2017 combine.  A guy that BEAT the Panthers last preseason at BOA.

You must be a UT fan

I liked what I saw from Gilbert. His mechanics remind me somewhat of Favre and Delhomme, but he also had some patience and good accuracy. I say roll with him.

Totally agree, this silly thread is silly because it's at least three weeks premature, and to this point in the thread no one has mentioned Heincke who reportedly throws real good/accurate.  Even if Moore has anything left would that really be better than these two semi-young guys?

    • I’m old enough to remember when I wanted to draft Njoku We brought back Mitchell and officially kept Tremble. Mitchell Evans isn’t going anywhere. Sanders who knows, he was awful last year I fully agree we need a better TE. This room is awful Njoku would be a massive help in the red zone. However it really seems like Dan and the FO prefer to go young on offense
    • You’re underselling Loveland imo. He’s so damn good. You can line him out wide and count on him to win 1 v 1. I don’t see that from Sadiq. Loveland is going to go over 1000 yards next season I’m not overly asking for a WR3. It’s just one of the few directions Morgan could go in round 1.  Let’s say Thieneman, Fano and Cooper are all on the board it’s a tough decision. I just don’t see how this team would take Sadiq over some of those guys given the way they run their offense. Our tight end room is easily bottom of the league so I can definitely see why someone would want a tight end though. At one point during the season I was on the Sadiq train as well. I just don’t think value wise for us specifically it makes sense given our team as a whole As far as tight ends go in this draft I really like Max Klare. Very smooth mover
    • Some of you need some serious help with the way 9 lives rent free in your heads I know for a fact, Dan loves Bryce. Bryce is his guy. This offense is very young and they’re asking Bryce to do a lot. With Idzik taking over playcalling duties it’s a move that is another step in the process of Bryce taking control of the offense. 24 years old. This youth movement on offense and putting more on 9’s shoulders is going to pay off in the long run
