Carolina Panthers: Trading Cornerback Daryl Worley for Wideout Torrey Smith

General manager Marty Hurney addressed the appropriate position via trade, but he swapped a starting cover defender for a pass-catcher who doesn't have reliable hands to compensate for quarterback Cam Newton's periodic inaccuracies.

Newton has completed 60 percent or better of his passes in only two out of seven seasons. In the same time span, Torrey Smith's catch rate dipped below 50 percent in three out of seven terms. Expect to see a lot of passes hit the ground when the two attempt to connect downfield.

Of course, Smith brings Super Bowl experience to the locker room as a two-time champion, but the Panthers need production at the position more than a decorated resume.

Unless DJ Moore extends an impressive offseason into a spectacular regular-season showing, Carolina's wide receiver corps will rank near the bottom of the league in terms of production in 2018. Jarius Wright hasn't shown much through six seasons, and Curtis Samuel still needs to find his way in the pros.

 That was riskiest move, this was biggest regret.  I know clickbait, but I'm dying here....its offseason.

To be fair they did get some of them right:

Gotcha - didn't notice the slight difference. Just remember the article being awful before and this one being just bad!

First of all, Panthers have a bigger regret that's far more obvious. Not addressing the LG position in a meaningful way. 

Second of all Hurney got something for absolutely nothing in Worley (and I didn't like the trade at the time) 

 

So not only is this writer missing our biggest regret, he got one completely wrong

      Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy

      Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
