Thoughts on Trading Funchess?

I saw the idea of trading Funchess for immediate secondary or o-line help being floated around and was curious to see if others felt the same. I can't envision our organization pulling the rug out from under Funchess considering our history and his reputation as an excellent teammate. He also has yet to reach his potential as a WR, in my opinion.

However, if we continue to see promise/production out of the other WRs (Moore, Wright, Smith, Samuel, & Byrd) plus Olsen/Thomas, is this a tough business move that would raise our playoff potential? Another factor is Funchess' upcoming contract that will eat away at the salary cap for the near future.

None of our receivers have reached their potential and this point. Why trade the one proven real game receiver we have outside of olsen?????

I can see the argument for it, but after what happened last year I'm hesitant to trade away any receiver with a pulse.

You don't make a strength weaker.  Anyone who we COULD trade for is likely going to be cut anyways.

Lmaooo, our secondary is in shambles, yes, but it was in shambles before Cockrell went down. Just gotta deal with it.

I don't always trade players, but when I do it's because of what I saw during the second half of a preseason game.

Not until we see our guys in actual games will I say we can afford to trade anyone.

Go back and read the qualifying statement and the other factors for consideration.

After witnessing our WR depth last season, no way I even consider moving Funchess unless we're talking a legit starting CB in return.

Another consideration has to be the anticipated cost to keep him. He's a free agent after this year. With our other WRs, is it worth the cost to hand him a suitcase full of hundies? Especially given the needs on both lines and the secondary?

It would definitely need to be a surefire starter. Likely one that is also on an expiring contract.
