That worked 30 years ago, its a passing league now. We need to get better

That is a myth.  The Patriots have skewed the numbers to some extent, but good defense and running the ball still wins championships.  The Eagles won one last year by being a top five rushing team, and a middle of the pack passing team.  They were 13th is passing yards per game, 16 in yards per reception.  Their run game was third in the league  in yards per game and per rush.  Seattle also won a superbowl with a dominant run game and defense and a so so passing attack.  Denver's sb win was an adequate run game, dominant defense, and a barely adequate passing game.   Only the Patriots win with a dominant passing game.

Its more important to be efficient with whatever offensive style you use.  And to win the turnover battle.

How many teams won at least 11 games 4 out of 5 seasons in the league? How many passing teams failed to win 9+ games the last 4 of 5 seasons,..

look it up,..

this style of football just pisses fantasy nerds off,.. but that’s not football,.

winning ugly beats losing pretty any day ha

You guys crack me up. We did good, not great against a good team. They have strong lines on both sides of the ball. They didn't cross the 50 yard line until the second half and with some really sneaky holding.

It was the first game, and we won. It's a better start than 0-1 and provides momentum going forward. The first year starters like Moton and Jackson had the penalties I thought they would, but it was from playing aggressively. They'll clean things up as we go through the season. We are a slow starting team, so a win in the opener should always be encouraging.

This style if football is outdated, that’s why you saw in last years SB two pass heavy teams

The broncos had an all time D that won in spite of their offense

The eagles were a pass first team who had the league mvp until he got injured then Foles went on to have a two great passing games to win them the damn thing. The Brocond barely even had an offense. Then look at the Ravens who literally had to turn into a pass first team in the playoffs to win it all. The patriots don’t skew the numbers they set the trend and keep up with today’s league which is designed to put up passing numbers

A win is a win and the defense looks better than last years

But the offense looks the same. To have “0” passing in today’s pass happy NFL is disheartening. Something has to change

You're absolutely right, the win was bitter sweet.

There were many reasons

1) Injuries - Losing Greg and Daryl long term is a massive blow

2) We had a chance to make a statement yesterday, instead we played just well enough to win

3) Our offense was not impressive at all

There’s a lot more bitter than sweet:

Bitter:

Current issues are past issues

Flaccid offense, no killer instinct, Norv appears to be a more traditional Shula

Oline regressing quickly; non existent

Cam’s footwork and accuracy still an issue

Recievers not looking any better

Time management still sub par

Zero passing threat; still relying on read option, dump offs to CMC and Cam’s athletic ability

Struggled at home vs. an awful Cowboys team

Underutilozing players, blindly relying on vets

No sense of urgency or organization (could be beginning of season jitters)

Williams NEVER should have been out there. Would rather have him after bye healthy than risked him going out for the season.

injuries

Sweet:

CMC progressing

Cam still young and healthy enough to rely on his athletic ability to be elite

Refs giving us calls we haven’t gotten in the past

Dline looks good especially for first game. Were able to completely shut down good RBs.

The cowboys sucked bad...real bad

Secondary seems solid. Granted no real receivers on the Cowboys but still better than I thought.

Not true.

Phili was the 6th run happy team last year, just a few spots below Carolina,...6th in rushes per game

http://www.fftoday.com/stats/17_run_pass_ratios.html

thank you for playing

when you click the link, also choose pass attempts per game to situate,..

name the top 10 teams with the highest passing attempts,... none made the playoffs

look towards the middle and bottom, those teams made it.

fallacy— some teams just pass more effectively which is where we have been mediocre at best.

BTW, look at the most pass-happy teams. What do they have in common? They all sucked. People believe what they want to believe, even in the face of facts.

    • Kind of where I'm at on this also. I think he has the potential to be an all pro caliber guard if he can come back 100%. He's more mauler than quick. Hunt is making 20m per, Moton is making 22m. Moton is a better RT than Icky is a LT so I think the pay comp would probably be about the same there. I don't see Icky as a 28m per season LT. He'll be low 20s and as an elite guard, i think he'd be within a couple mill of that.
    • I read that Pittsburgh is a possibility.  I think of college QB studs who had some form of mental quirk yet tons of talent--but their issue made being a team leader difficult and it led to their demise--going back:  Jamarcus Russell, Art Schlichter, Jeff George, etc. I think people forget that the QB must not only have talent, but they must lead.
    • I wish I knew more details, but the NIL money to 20-year olds combined with easy access to gambling sites is a side effect that these kids may not have considered.  To your point,A famous 2009 Sports Illustrated article titled “How (and Why) Athletes Go Broke” estimated that 78% of retired NFL players go bankrupt or face significant financial stress within two years of leaving the league.  I am guessing that ego and $$$ and the thrill of competition (most pro athletes love competition because they are the winners) makes it a powerful temptation.  Throw in the ease of gambling on your phone which is always in your hand, and I see your point x 10.
