BYE Week Musings: Guess Cam’s Next Contract

With it being the BYE week and we see Cam evolving into the undeniable GOAT we all know he would be, it got me thinking. Currently every poop QB that crosses the Dalton line (aka average or better) sets a record when they sign a new contract with the exception of Drew Brees who took a paycut to stay in the shitty swamp for two more years before retiring.

So here we are, we have next offseason with no drama about Cam’s next contract but all indications are that a deal will have to be reached by the time training camp ends in 2020. My question is this, what do you guys think Cam’s next contract is gonna be? I’m personally hoping its around 30~ Mill a year and that would be a sweatheart deal in my eyes. Realistically, I know Cam will likely command $36 million a year, at 30 years young and a likely 5 year extention we would see Cam in a Panthers uniform until he is 36 years old on a $180 million contract. Whew.

By this time we should have the new contract rules in place with the new progressive salary cap. By 2019 the NFL and NFLPA will agree on a whole new structure. My prediction is teams will have percentages of the cap allocated to positions and not players. this will allow them to ground these irrational payouts that are happening and provide fully guaranteed contracts to all players with clauses of course.

I think your a tad delusional... Cam Has a lot of hits under his belt for a QB hes carried the ball a ton, the team is more likely to see his value lower due to his running back amount of hits.... 30 is far from old for most QB's unless Cam drastically changes his playing style realistically his value is going to take a huge hit..... I hope otherwise but I don't see him playing past 34-35.

I think the complete opposite in regards to his retiring. This guy keeps his body in peak physical condition, much like Lebron.  He has been sliding WAY more lately in running situations as well.  I think he plays late into his 30's.  The guy is a grown child when he gets on the field, the day you start seeing him taking the game 'more serious' without that joy...that's the year he'll hang them up.

Cam's next contract will not be with the Panthers. Not hating just think he will go elsewhere.

Highly doubt it and even if he wanted to leave we'd certainly tag him a couple years and he'd be here through 2022 at least.

Why do you think this? He didn't leave last time, and he has only ever shown nothing but love to the organization. Like, we always knew that Cousins was going to leave Washington, but Cam has never even hinted at it. The only place that makes sense is Atlanta, and I imagine Cam and Ryan's careers will likely end around the same time.

Cam has 856 career carries, not to mention the abuse he's taken in the pocket because in years past the refs let him get blasted.

Those cumulative hits take a toll and the past two years his dings have begun to collect Shoulder/Ankle/Ribs ect. I hope I'm wrong but I think hes going to end up with a running back career arc unless he dramatically alters his style of play.

Lol so many terrible takes from Panthers fans who know nothing about their QB.

There’s possibly one player in this league who is more competitive then Cam and he’s playing his 16th season at age 40. You jokers really think he takes this much care of his body to walk away from the game at 35???

And ignore @Squirrel he’s been clowning Cam since he got drafted. There’s no chance he walks away from the Carolinas. He’s building something here and he’s shown that he’s committed to this region and fan base, the true fans have responded during the home games this season.

I have never clowned Cam. Now Jake yes.  But to expand on my reasoning. Cam will probably go to Atlanta. Hometown home team. It won't be anything personal.  But I can see it happening and would wish him well. Excluding against us.

    • They traded away their 1st next year also to get James Pearce Jr. Really hope this blows up in the Falcons face. I don't care how it happens, I just want to win the division this year. Zero sympathy for other team's issues. And our pass rush looks like it needs all the help it can get.
    • I would have released him this season, tbh and worked with Christensen out there.
    • 10/10. We're due for some good luck, and I think this team is much better than what we've had the last 2 seasons. Defensive injuries could derail us b/c our depth there is still questionable. Still worried about the pass rush getting pressure without blitzing. Pleasantly surprised by the secondary and run defense.  Dan Morgan has done a lot to resurrect this roster from the deplorable position Fitterer left it in by showing some scouting chops with hitting on these guys drafted in the later rounds or UDFAs. Lathan Ransom & Corey Thornton both look like they fit this scheme and the NFL isn't too big for them.  I'm as excited for the rookie trifecta of T-Mac, Scourton, and Princely as I can remember. On paper, this offense is the most talented since 2021, maybe 2017, and maybe 2015. None of that means this team will produce any better, but this team has offensive talent & depth like we have rarely had in team history. If you don't believe me, go Google it. We've had some awful offensive collections overall in many years, to varying degrees mitigated by superstar talents like Steve Smith, Christian Mccaffrey, or Cam Newton.  I honestly think the collective offensive talent in 2025 may be better, but Cam was so otherworldly in 2015 & 2017 that he covered any flaws. Seriously, though, Cam doesnt get enough love for 2017. I think that may have been his best season. In general, Cam doesn't get enough respect IMHO. Both in college and in the NFL, Cam took teams that without him would have had no chance and won. True definition of a guy who elevated his team. To be clear, I am in no way am I saying this team will be better than 2017 or 2015. My point is that the offensive talent is there on offense if Bryce can unlock it.  I've been a Bryce supporter, but there are no excuses not to perform with this group. This isn't the disaster we gave him in 2023 or a new scheme like in 2024 where I think he hadn't mentally removed from his rookie season to start. I dont know how you couldnt be excited about that. And we still compete in a division that isn't insurmountable. I got got in 2023 like most of us in buying into the team propaganda, but in general, I think I'm pretty realistic about the team. I knew in my heart we would be bad last year. I wasnt expecting the defense to be that bad or Bryce to start off that poorly, but I had no expectations whatsoever for making the playoffs. And I genuinely think we will be competitive all year this season. I think we win 8-9 games and compete for the division. I think the ceiling is 11 wins, and the floor is 7. The good news is after next week, we will all be proven right or proven wrong. Keep Pounding!
