What? No belittling of Funchess today?

Funchess can run routes, does get separation, and---perhaps most of all---makes big boy catches.  Today's game was a prime example.

With our spread-the-rock-around offense, DF's game today was about as good as you can hope for out of our leading receiver.  He pretty much did exactly what he was supposed to do, and he does that most of the time.  Will he ever be great?  Well,  perhaps not (or maybe so). But DF will always be good.  He's a solid receiver that has come up in our system, and I see marked development (even if some of you can't,  or simply don't want to see it).  Our receiving corps would leave a lot to be desired without Funchess making clutch catches. I'd rather extend him if he isn't trying to break the bank (and I'd argue that 10 to 15 mil per is fair), but if you get rid of him,  you damned sure better replace him.

Big boy catches!  That's right.

I'm just being real. He had an alright day. He manage to get 74 yards in a game where the Panthers had to pass quite often to get back into it. Don't act like he did anything amazing today. He's in every offensive snap just about, it's not shocking that in today's NFL a receiver would make some catches and get 74 yards.

Our offense might be hard pressed to produce a thousand yard receiver,  but Funchess is heading that way.  And it's not only about the yards,  it's about the catches as well. Some of you act like Funchess is not an NFL-caliber starting receiver.  Well, he is.  And all the things that I've heard some say that he can't do, he pretty much does week in and week out.  He's a good receiver.

He's an okay receiver, but I doubt he would have even this much production on most teams. I don't understand this thread, no one was downing Funchess today, and it's also not like he had an amazing day. He utilized his size today, and made some good catches, but it's not like he snagged a game winner.

If they don't play like it was in a Madden game, they think the player sucks. They also only believe in 42-0 victories and 16-0 regular seasons. Also, they usually expect their Moms to bring them Pizza Rolls at halftime.

    • Wanting that type of play and being okay with paying $55 million a season for it are two entirely different things. If Bryce were to become the same player Purdy has been, then he would surpass my expectations of him and I'd be okay with him as our QB of the future (and again, I've long been one of the bigger anti Bryce people here who doesn't think he is capable of being our long term solution). But in no world would I be okay with paying him THAT kind of money, paying an average starter elite money is just a terrible decision.
    • I don't think they can overcome that mistake. Hell Lance was a hiccup compared to this. He isn't going to be able to carry that price tag and now he is going to have to do just that. Lol. The NFL is so dumb sometimes.
    • So, one could say that T-Mac is quicker than someone of his size should be and while he might not be quite as fast as Evans in the 40, he's more athletic than Evans. If only someone, anyone, could have seen that in his tape and mentioned that on here, hmmmmmmm In all seriousness, hearing he tested in the 89th percentile in that drill at his size is crazy impressive.  Just tried to look up the times of the top WRs in the league right now, most don't show at time for that, but I did see Chase ran his in 7 seconds flat. I honestly don't know how true this is, but I do remember seeing one breakdown of his tape and the person said he has quiet and efficient feet.  That he's really good at using the minimal steps possible to make his cuts and because of that, it actually makes him look slower to the human eye because you don't see all the quick chop steps that the guys like Tyreek would use in their running. I'm still in a state of disbelief that he's a Panther and it might not fully hit me until week 1 and I see him out there making plays for us, still feels like Goodell is going to just be like, "YOU GOT PUNKED!!!  hahaha, he's a Cowboy now, suck it"
