While We're on the Topic of Unnecessary Roughness on QB Penalties

It wasn't even close to Cam's head and was a good no call in my opinion. His helmet hit his shoulder and I didn't see where he really lead with his head. Clean hit.   If Panthers have that same hit on Big Ben and it gets flagged then everyone would be talking about how soft the NFL has gotten.

Doesn’t matter. It’s a penalty to lead with the crown of your helmet hitting the QB. On the replay you can actually see Watt lower his helmet so the hit was 100% top of the helmet. I’ve seen the penalty called when the defender hits a QB in the chest with a lowered helmet even if it’s not the head. No doubt in my mind they know about Cam’s shoulder and that’s what his target was knowing that for Cam they won’t call anything unless it’s an egregious hit to Cam’s helmet.

I guess it depends on the interpretation of the rule, and I think we all agree that rules are always interpreted in favor of not calling roughing the passer against Cam. In looking at the rule though, it does say contact between the helmet and any part of the passer is prohibited. However, it also says, “This rule does not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or non-crown parts of the helmet in the course of a conventional tackle on a passer.” The only thing I can guess is it was viewed as a conventional tackle. I’m fine with the “no call” in this situation, given that I would be pretty upset if roughing the passer were called if Julius Peppers made the exact same hit on Big Ben.

Reid should def have been flagged, but not ejected. It blew my mind that the Steelers were not flagged too though. One penalty doesn't excuse players from putting their hands in players faces under their masks. I am interested to see what Reid's fine is. If it is more than the ATL (which our guy was fined the same...), I 100% attribute it to Reid's stance on kneeling.

I'm fine with questioning no calls on Cam. He is still ghe least protected QB in the NFL.

But, you can't cry about hits on Cam and then try to defend our players when they make illegal hits too. Reid hit a sliding QB in the head. That's all there is to it. The ejection is a judgement call, but he definitely loaded up and launched. Honestly, had that been Cam instead of Big Ben I would've wanted the play flagged and the player ejected so I can't cry about it when that was the outcome for us.

Been slid late and Reid let up, he just happened to make contact. If you can't see that, you're blind. After the play, notice Reid and Ben talking, they both knew it wasn't intentional.

I honestly want our players to start taking hits at other QB's and then when the refs ask why,  our players ask them why they didnt call it when the other player hit cam.

and I hope someone says as much in a press conference, fug the NFL for not giving Cam the same protection as other QB's.

If they wont protect Cam, then fug everyone else. open season mofo's

Damn right....can't believe it hasn't happened.

Maybe we need more like Reid, Jackson, and some meanness on the DL.

Two wrongs will certainly make a right.

I can’t believe it happened and it seems like once they got him out of the game it was over for the defense completely over!

This isn’t about right and wrong, it’s about what needs to happen.

Was about to say that. Happens in basketball and every other sport too.

Hell happens in the NFL just our team hasn't stood up for itself since Smitty left. Smitty was our guy who would give it back.

Furthermore doing nothing doesn't make a right either.

Cam needs to do a better job of protecting himself in the pocket,  period. I'm not sure if it was scheme or what, but he just wasn't feeling the pressure like he had been most of this season. It's hard to believe we would intentionally give TJ Watt a free release like that and Cam was just supposed to stand in the pocket.

It's the offensive line's fault if the QB is getting pressured, but it's the QB's fault if that pressure turns into game changing plays. Cam let that happen a couple times last night.

In this case yes, and if not, at least we're playing with the same intentions as our opponents...  all is fair in love and war.

Also, our soft ass team welcomes the hits on Cam bc they don't retaliate.  Notice who defended Cam on the Kazee hit - a first year WR, and he got penalized for it.  When we get a questionable hit on an opposing QB, like last night, the fuging biggest dudes on the field are coming for blood.  I always go back to Trai looking back at Cam against Denver and walking away like it wasn't his problem.

Man...  Smitty almost killed Talib one year in Tampa for taking a headshot on Pickles...  if that was Cam, somebody would be getting mollywhopped.  Under Rivera, our culture is soft as wet toilet paper.  Want to injure our QB?  Ok, but you better not do that again, or we're gonna send tapes to the league office afterwards, who wont do jackshit bc they want Cam knocked out too.

People need to realize, sometimes you gotta take justice into your own hands.
