This is a 12-4 team if we just get rid of Gano, Funchess and Washington

I get what you are saying, Gano was bad, but without him, we’d be 5-5.

I give Gano credit for making that kick against the Giants, but you could make an argument that it's his fault we aren't chasing a fourth straight winning season. In 2016, he cost us at least three games...

As bad as Gano was, you can still overcome an inconsistent kicker.

If we hire a new staff then the head coach has to be offensive minded.

I despise the Saints and Sean Payton, but they absolutely waxed this team the last 3 times we met, and Payton already brought that team one Super Bowl while they look primed to make a strong run for another.

Meanwhile we're stuck with Ron Rivera who still fails at basic situational coaching 8 years into his head coaching gig

Gano is here because Ron and Marty decided to cut Butker and give the vet a big extension.  Funchess plays because Ron prefers experience over talent and production.  Washington is DC because Ron thinks he's a nice guy and didn't want to search for someone qualified.  Common theme here, guys.

I'd like to add that I think highly of Ron as a person and respect his loyalty to players (the ones who deserve it at least). That said, as is often the case once a coach is in his sixth, seventh or eighth year with the same team, the rah-rah isn't outweighing the same miserable failures over and over. It's time for a change.

Additionally, Marty needs to go. I think he's done an admirable job in his second term here -- far better than his first term, to be honest -- but if he's making the hiring decisions, we're fuged because it'll be another retread defensive coordinator. Don't be shocked if it's Ron Meeks.

Gano has won far, FAR more games for us than he's lost.  It's not even close.  If we cut Gano, he'd be unemployed less than 24 hours.  He's one of the best kickers in the game today.

I know it sucks to hear that after we lost a game partly on his misses.  That doesn't make it any less true.  The real solution is to stop letting it come down to a kick or two.  Our offense was wildly inconsistent out there in Detroit.  We had a handful of drives where it looked like the second coming of "The Greatest Show on Turf".  I mean, look!

90, 92 and 75 yard TD drives.  That's amazing.

Then we had drives where we looked like, well, the Panthers.

Kicking wasn't the issue.  Offensive consistency was.

Funchess plays because it’s his last year and he’s on a prove it deal basically.

I personally have seen enough, and I hate very much he’s confirmed everything I have disliked about him. He’s a Lafell,.. makes some good catches, then drops them when games and drives are on the line. Only his attitude makes him better than Benji.

Gano,... besides making the kick of his life,.. sucks. That big kick is the only reason he gets the pass that he does.

this team is not a 12-4 team without them though,..

We would be a 10-6 or 11-5 team with Wilkes and an NFC championship team if we had McDermott back.

Also, Ron having Norv play the first half like we have a lights our defense is putting us in serious holes every game.

if we would play aggressive past the first drive expecting our defense to fail instead of leaning on them we would do much better

Graham Gano is the kicker who'll make the extra point in the first quarter, nail a 47-yarder before halftime to give you a 10-point lead, then miss two extra points and a 21-yarder in the fourth quarter. That's his career here in a nutshell.

5 points left on the board by Gano was the issue in a 1 point game (3 on his 35 yard miss, 1 XP miss, and one where we went for 2 but never would have had he not bricked his pants so hard).  We got down to fieldgoal range and needed momentum and he shat himself like a scared toddler.

Gano shouldnt be named in this thread.   He is more of a postive than negative for us.  Everyone gets to have a bad game.  Even kickers.

this year he won us a game with a record kick and hadn't missed a FG leading up to that kick since when?
