A Decade of Ron Rivera

In 5 of 6 losses this year, we have had a good chance to win at the end

Rivera is the head man, so responsibility lays at his feet

but when your QB doesn’t make winning plays when you are within one score of winning, there is not much a coach can do

the one thing that Rivera failed miserably at this year was making Washington DC

all coaches can do is put players in position to make plays....and we have been in position

Don't you know it's NEVER Cam's fault when they lose? Of course I'm being sarcastic.

This squad has been a team since '95.

We've had:

1. Dom Capers

2. George Seifert

3. John Fox

4. Ron Rivera

Out of these 23-ish years, we will have had Rivera for 9 of them (maybe 10) with as much to show for it as Fox.

This needs to be over.  We are wasting away.  What the hell are we even waiting for anymore?

Capers=defense, Seifert=Walsh finisher, Fox=defense, Rivera=defense

We are perpetually focused on defense and suck on defense.  Weird season and weird coaching.  This team still hasn't figured out their identity.

My primary point: We have a new owner and have had absolutely dull coaches who were guys "due" HC gigs.  It's time to hire ahead of the curve.  I see a lot of Tepper support but the guy has basically been playing it cool and safe, with cushy marketing and community stuff.  A lot are claiming they love him already and think he's all with it, but I'm saying: let's wait and see.

Saxy out.

I didn't know it was 2021 yet.

I stand corrected, a year off.  Next year would be 9, the following 10.

Regardless, it's a damn long time fellers! Ciao.

It seems like it's been longer because he's been seemingly having to relearn lessons from the same self inflicted mistakes practically every year. It never sinks in for him.

the head of the snake is gone

kinda weird all the JR lovers, including Igo, seem to have disappeared or completely ignore the fact they were wrong and probably should have been more receiving of those who have despised JR for over a decade.

just goes to show you this site can be just as bad clinging on to the norm with fear of change, we see it with players and coaches, we'll most certainly see it with Cam when it's time to move on but most of this fanbase are here for cam and most likely not post-cam

but as said JR is gone, I know pre Cam fans have had the burden of hearing 'next year' changes are coming etc. and have had to muster up the patience for this  mediocre stale franchise, but at least this time we have more reason than any to believe it's finally going to happen and by it I mean put winning first and foremost, a notion this franchise has never done since day 1

One more year of Rivera, I’m telling you he’s not getting fired this year.

If he's still here next year, I'll be shocked...and disappointed.

Sticking with the status quo after this season is the kind of thing that could make a lot of the fanbase turn on Tepper.

i'm still baffled at the george seifert hiring. everyone knew he was a bill walsh understudy and dumbass richardson gave him a shot b/c he so happened to win a superbowl with the niners

i'll still never forget the 98 season though contending with the packers for that final wildcard spot in a point differential tiebreaker. we whooped the poo out of the saints but unfortunately the packers whooped the poo out of the cardinals clinching that final playoff spot by the thinnest of margins.

i'll also never forget beating the vikings with chris weinke at the helm in 2001 starting the season 1-0 only to lose the next 15. lolll. if we think this 5 game losing streak is bad, imagine that year (although expectations were a lot lower)

fug man. i still can't believe we're on the brink of missing the playoffs. this poo fuging sucks

I remember all of that. For some reason after yesterday's lost, this season has me in my feeling like the 1-15 season.  Better record, but same feeling.  I have been  in a saddened mood since the 3rd quarter yesterday.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
