Blaming Rivera

Our win today has clearly exposed the rampant culture of blindly hating on everything Rivera does, whether rational or not. If we win games under normal circumstances, it’s in spite of Rivera and as a result of Cam and others putting the team on their backs. However for some reason, Rivera gets 100% of the credit for today’s win. No one is blaming Kyle Allen for not intentionally throwing 6 interceptions...Norv for not running it up the gut on 3 straight downs every drive...CAP for not fumbling every carry...DJ Moore and Ian Thomas for not dropping every pass...etc. etc.

Rivera pulled CMC and Luke after their lone drive - our best healthy offensive and defensive players. That seems like a guy trying everything he can to win the game? You want him to not call timeouts at the end of the first half to set the team up for a field goal? How blatantly do you expect him to tank on national television? That would be ridiculous.

You guys so eloquently compared today’s game to a preseason game, and fail to acknowledge that in that same analogy, players are desperately fighting for their roster spots and ultimately their longevity in this league. If you think coaches in any sport go into the locker room or practice before the game and tell all of these players to hold back and give up so we can lose and possibly get a better player in the draft, then I really doubt you are over 14 or 15 years old because that’s not manhood. As harsh as it sounds, I find that to be spitting on the grave of Sam Mills and everything he stood for.

“Keep Pounding”

That’s it...Keep Pounding. There’s no conditional asterisk attached that instructs to Keep Pounding*

*but only when it’s convenient for draft positioning

Get that loser mentality out of here. Willingly accepting and even embracing losing in any way shape or form breeds a culture of losing in the locker room.

Does it suck that we ultimately lost a few spots in the draft? Yeah sure. Is it Rivera’s fault? Nope. Y’all aren’t Panthers...you’re sheep. Go cheer for the Rams or something.

Yes sir...well said.

I swear this titty baby culture has bled over to sports fandom and it’s maddening.  Some fans want to do nothing but cast blame without ever giving credit.  I sure hope their boss doesn’t have the same approach...for their sake.

About Ron himself.  I do not blame him for winning the game but for the losing streak, the team many games looked completely unprepared like they did not practice or had a game plan.   Also he did not play Moore early on much when it was clear the kid is good, while Funchess was getting lions share of targets and costing us wins with his lack of effort.

It takes someone to be injured for Ron to consider replacing them and that is pretty clear.

i'm such a fan i tell other fans the proper way to behave!   that's right.  because i'm the right kind of fan.  you know how i know that, because i'm the one doing it, so it has to be right.   blah blah blah.   sounds like impotence to me.  have absolutely 0 say in what team does, so tell other people with 0 say in what team does how to behave.  feel superior.  rinse and repeat.    you ain't shite.  you have 0 say.  your opinion, like mine, matters not at all, so shut up.

Either explain how a coach can effectively tank a game without jeopardizing the livelihood of his players, or continue to put your head under a rock and scream “Lalalala the sky is green and the ocean is orange and 9/11 was an inside job and Jimmy Clausen was the best quarterback this team has ever had! Respect my opinion!”.

I forgot we’re in a “Participation Trophy” society where everyone has an opinion that must be heard...no matter how ill-informed. You sound like a certain someone who constantly ignores his own experts just to go with his gut on everything.

no, that's what you sound like.   keep supporting a failing flailing plan and call it 'keeppounding'.  you could just insert 'real patriot' in there while you're at it.   we don't want a participation trophy, which is all we'll get with this group.   one day you'll wake up and realize ron squandered quite a few hof careers, and only has his job because of cam, who strangely enough, is one of the people whose career he has killed.

You’re confused dude....this ain’t a “Rivera is the GOAT” thread. I’m not a Rivera fan. I just found yesterday’s game to have exposed the large percentage of his haters who want to blindly blame him for everything because it’s convenient and it fits their agenda. He has plenty of shortcomings deserving of criticism...but not actively and egregiously tanking the regular season finale? Get out of here with that...anyone who thinks that is an option in a vacuum without considering any other variables has “Ignorance is bliss” tattooed across their forehead.

well, not on my forehead.   i wanted us to lose and i wanted that higher pick and i wanted rivera fired.  i got none of it.  i do understand what you're saying.  you can only do so much to tank without including the players in it, which you can't do.  i get that part.  like i said, i got nothing i wanted and the future looks bleak for this team, and i'm upset about it.

And yet Payton managed to accomplish exactly that with a more talented roster.

The Sean Payton d-riding in here is crazy. Let’s all worship Payton for deliberately tanking that game just to drop the Panthers a few spots in the draft...what a genius!!

If you don’t understand the difference in motivations that game (i.e. one coach is preparing for the postseason and the other is not), then you’re one of the blind people I’m addressing in the OP (insert Bird Box meme here). Yes, Payton was perhaps a little more liberal with his benching of key players throughout the game, but if you think that’s part of his master plan of hurting our draft position and NOT because he’s trying to stay healthy for a postseason run, then maybe your tinfoil hat is on a little too tight and is cutting off circulation to your brain.

I’d say Moore literally costed us two football games with his fumbles. So not a fair comparison you are using here.
