It's about impact on the team. Mills was our veteran leader from the start and only player to start all our games the first 3 seasons, a huge reason for getting to the NFC Championship game so soon, and then obviously his impact as a coach and in 2003...

Peppers had 12 sacks as a rookie on our way to a Super Bowl appearance. He led us again with 10.5 sacks when we returned to the NFC CG in '05.

Agreed, and well said.

Mills > Pepp...hands down.  And if that weren't enough, Pepp quit on us, screw him.

I love Pep and he's a great all time Panther, just I don't think he's on those guy's level. He'd be number 1 hands down if he stayed here his whole career but leaving us in his prime factors in for me. Agree to disagree

People forget just how great Jake was for us until his arm was done

I most certainly don't. Jake was never a great QB. Exciting and full of exuberance but Smith and Moose made Jake. Jake was very average and I was a huge Jake fan.

Rival opinion: Kuechly is already one of the handful of best MLBs ever to play, even if he retires tomorrow. Peppers (though it's a little hard to say he's a Panther GOAT as he's played a fair bit elsewhere) is a little further down the relative pass-rushing pecking order, just as Smith is for wideouts; however, they both play positions that historically attract more singular talents. So it's a tough call, and really depends on how you frame it.

He's in the conversation. Another couple years or more of this level of play and it'll be undisputed. Hell, he's not far from being the best MLB in league history...

He sucked for half the year this year and lived on name. He’s been great in the past but not this year until we were already out of it.

Luke is likely the best player the Panthers have ever had on their team.

And by best, I mean multiple years of him being the best player at his position.

Cam has 1, of those years.  Smitty had a couple.  Pep had a couple.  Luke probably has 5 or so already.  GO has 1 of those.

Most valuable?  Nah.  Best player?  Yes.
