Regarding this year's O-Line...

USA Today examines the argument:

 

There’s no question that Carolina’s run blocking exceeded even our wildest expectations. Despite an insane workload, Christian McCaffrey averaged five yards per carry for the year, while Cam Newton was just behind him at 4.8 yards per rush. Solid run blocking at all three interior positions was a huge reason why.

The emergence of Taylor Moton at right tackle was also a major factor in the unit’s success. Moton should return to start in 2019, no matter what Williams’ situation is.

That’s not to say that the unit could not stand some improvement.

The team’s sack number would likely have been much higher if not for Newton’s elusiveness and ability to break tackles. Chris Clark was no better than Matt Kalil on the blindside either, and finding an upgrade there should be very high on the team’s list of priorities this offseason.

How about the pass blocking that got Cam hurt again(and again and again), and got another QB hurt in just one game. But yea our run blocking was good...now if only we can arrive in the modern era and not try to run the clock out after getting a 1 point lead.

People who blame the OL for QB injuries are retarded. Our OL was at he very least middle of the pack. All the lower teams didn't have QBs getting hurt. The injuries were fluky, not because of OL.

Every QB that played behind that line this season wound up injured or nearly injured, including Newton.

That's an awful lot of "flukes".

Not really. Cam evaded some sacks and others were because he held the ball too long... probably evened out. The line started out really well and then turned to sh*t late in the year when Clark and Van Roten's play fell off.

One OT he despised in draft class was Taylor Decker saying DTs > OL cause Gettleman knows best :eyeroll:

      I don't think anybody with a brain thought or thinks we are a legit super bowl contender this year.  I do LOVE the young core group that is forming. Part of the reason I defend Bryce Young is that if he is not good enough, we're going to waste a lot of this young talent we have anyway.  You don't go from 5-12 to super bowl contender in one offseason unless you get a major injury back or get an insane free agent haul. We currently can't hang with the best teams in the league.  We are also much closer than we were 365 days ago. Progress is good. There's still an outside shot at the playoffs, but I am really excited to see what Dan Morgan does with this offseason. Rico Dowdle a big decision. Jalen Coker, Brycen Tremaine, Cade Mays, Austin Corbett, Brady Christensen, Nick Scott and Christian Rozeboom are the guys we have to make decisions on. But this rebuild should be over next August. Or we have to do it again.  Improvements needed at pass rush and linebacker for sure.  Expecting us to win a super bowl this year is like expecting a kindergartener to do calculus. Is it possible? I guess so. but 99.9% shot it aint happening. We played like doo-doo against the bills, but that was definitely a penciled in loss from the day the schedule came out. Candidly though, if Bryce is ever going to be it, next year is the year we need to start being really good.

      Yeah he put us in too big of a hole in which we had to pass more.  3rd and long with a slow roll out and he tried to tuck in and run with a fumble in the redzone.  3rd and long with an INT on our side of the field.  Then we get to like the 10ish yard line with less that 30 second and no timeouts (even Greg said we have to try to quick throws here), what does Dalton do?  Take a sack allowing us to barely rush a FG out (which missed due to being rushed).  You absolutely can't take a sack there.  Throw in getting sacked 6 additional times with 2 additional turnovers.  He also missed TMac on a TD where Shaq was trying to cover him and missed an open JHJ on a big gain.  Box Score watching won't tell the story yet people are going to try to do it anyway.   Now it's pretty clear he isn't the upgrade that some were claiming he is, but they can spin it differently I'm sure.
