If you are the owner of a stadium who wants 365 days of potential use, not just 11 football games and the occasional soccer match, how is this “retarded” and/or “unnecessary”?

Exactly. You want a multipurpose complex that can be used all year long. Not doing so is a waste. Concerts, basketball, all kinds of different shows..

the continued obsession with the frivolous spectacle and lack of any similar charge on the football side is becoming increasingly frustrating.

 

People don't want a soft football team that is afraid of the rain. What they want is accountability for coaches who preside over historic collapses.
