7-Eleven

That's Chris Hogan's nickname. Cam is going to have to roll with that one. It doesn't get any better.

"The Carolina Panthers signed one of the NFL’s most unique receivers in Chris Hogan, whose nickname describes his game perfectly. He was given the nickname “7-11” by former teammate Reggie Bush because of his uncanny ability to get open."

Thanks to @Steves89 for hipping us to Hogan's ability to separate, and Bush was obviously spot-on with Hogan's new moniker.

I've heard a small amount of perceived negativity about Hogan, but Pantherswire not only reminded me of the AFC Championship game the season before last (Remember?), where Hogan went for a buck 80, but the writer correctly dispels something I heard here about  Hogan having drops.

"Hogan’s routes, hands and deep ball ability should make him an excellent addition to Carolina’s wide receiver corps."

Honestly, it appears to be a pleasantly solid signing. I don't know what happen to Hogan and Brady's connection this season (other than Edelman and Gronk), but Hogan looks like he could be a great value. This signing may just be better than any signing last year, because we really don't have anything to lose and at least make an appreciable gain (no matter how small or big).

Think of it this way---He is an upgrade over Funchess and he just signed for slightly above the vet min.  Funchess will bring his skill set to Indy for $10m next season.

They call Hogan 7-11 because he is always open, then they should call Funchess VERIZON because he leads the league in dropped c/balls.

    • I wouldn't mind a deal that would add Rust or Rakell from the Pens. Move Jarvy to 2C, send KK and a prospect to Pittsbhrgh. Pittsburgh is taking calls for both. And both of them have played very well against Carolina.
    • I liked James on a personal level. I still do. But he had his flaws too and what's done is done. Charles Lee will get this season to showcase what he's building. If he and the team look like poo he should be on a very hot seat. But I don’t expect that to happen. I could be wrong. But I'd rather not be in this instance. Regardless. At some point we're going to be lucky to hire anyone worth a damn if we keep firing coaches. It's not something any of us should want to see because it's only going to mean yet another reset. Best case scenario is Lee with this infusion of youth establishes a refreshing culture change. We'll see.
    • This is preseason fluff, I know he has Buffalo 28 and they might not be are studded but they will perform over expected which can easily happen to the panthers. This is the “name game/franchise name”. I would put us against Green Bay in terms of talent but Green Bay is gonna get the benefit of the doubt
