ROUND 1, PICK NO. 16: CODY FORD, OL, OKLAHOMA

Ford is a versatile, pro-ready “mauler” type of offensive lineman who could immediately help the Panthers solidify their line. If the team wants to play third-year tackle Taylor Moton on the left, slide tackle Daryl Williams in at left guard and play Ford at right tackle, they could. Or, they could put Williams at his more natural right tackle position and play Ford at left guard. Ford’s ability allows Carolina the flexibility to move him until they find the best combination.Ford was also one of the Panthers’ final “top 30” visits in Charlotte on Tuesday, a league source told  ....

ROUND 4, PICK NO. 115: RENELL WREN, DT, ARIZONA STATE OR DAVID MONTGOMERY, RB, IOWA STATE

Wren could back up multiple defensive line positions as he continues to develop, and be the heir to key rotational defensive tackle, Kyle Love, who re-signed with the Panthers to a one-year deal this week. A league source told the Observer in January that the Panthers had been interested in Wren for some time.

If not for that first, this would be a great overall haul. I'm just not a big ford fan. Feel his fit is on the right side and that is well taken care of for the now&long term.

Her first one was very good and this better, plus it's realistic.

I think this is a home run if Burns and Sweat are off the board.  But there is a very good possibility that every othe round from 2-5 are all gone before those picks.  But hell yeah I would take this.  We need a tone setter for the run game on that offensive line.  Not Dillard playing patty cakes.

I wouldn’t be upset with that draft at all.  I’m a big believer in Moton on the left side be cause I’ve yet to see him not be good anywhere they’ve put him. Moton gives us flexibility and a mauler mindset. If we don’t go pass rusher 16 I like doubling down and savage is going to be a badass..then wren to help this team finally cut bait on big Vern and Poe and/or short next year..

Me too. People who didn't watch Daryl Williams look terrible at LT or don't remember the huge drop off when Remmers went from RT to LT, probably didn't even watch Moton at LT. Imagine a whole off-season being LT instead of competing at G, then being LT and then moving to RT in week 2. Dude played phenomenally in his first year starting and was working on 3 spots in the off-season.

Amazing how people think that Jonah and Dillard are guaranteed LTs. Again, feels like people don't realize how many tackles have busted or just become ordinary players.

Couldn’t agree more...a lot of even really good olineman would struggle being moved around so much... this dude has held it down every time. I think they found something special with Moton. He played damn well at LT vs Dallas and they’ve got some really pass rushers.People talk about upside, the only way we find how much he has at this point is put some faith in him and give him all offseason to be the guy. I want to see if this team found its franchise LT in the 3rd round ha, I’d bet on it at this point. people talk about how New England and Seattle built championship rosters..poo like that’s exactly how. Can’t have a full team of first rd draft picks that’s impossible.

And on the first round tackle bust rate...I’ve been saying that all offseason. People should go back and look at the “can’t miss” great OT class with  Joeckel and friends in it...I think everyone of those guys busted out or went to other teams. I trust Moton on Cam’s blindside better than any of those fugers and any LT he’s had not named Gross...and after this season who knows

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
